Rhythm and Retribution
I don't do very many challenges but I felt really inspired by AuntyMoira's theme of AU Ancient Egyptian theme and I had to give this a go.
A little known fact of Raye is that she dyes her hair. Her natural hair is both curly and dark brown, almost black. This was the perfect opportunity to draw her in her curly hair and with longer hair of course!
Another little known fact, she also started off with super long hair. Prior to finding her overall "forever look" she used to change hair styles based on what I had. So she started off with hair down to her hips that was curly (which was my hair when I created her) She's had bobbed hair, pink, purple, blue, orange hair (this was a mistake. Not for the character for me) and when I had red hair I just kept it like that since I really loved that look and it's been pretty consistent now for... wow, 15 years XD
Now I wrote a brief story for this AU:
Raye’s movements were like a waterfall, fluid and hypnotic. It’s said that Ma’at, the goddess of justice and balance, had kissed her, imbuing her with divine powers. Some would claim that her gaze would bring fortune; a cascade of riches and vibrant health. Others spoke in hushed terror of swift retribution of fortunes lost and lives extinguished. The truth, however was far more mundane. Raye was not a divine instrument, but rather a master thief, preying on the corrupt and morally bankrupt, distributing their stolen wealth to those who needed it. Her influence was subtle, her network vast, and she had an uncanny ability to read people. She needed only a minute to know how much darkness was in a person’s heart.
Empires have crumbled at her touch; Pharaohs had fallen from their thrones. She was chaos incarnate, a dancer in the shadows balancing the scales with stolen riches. Her dance was a weapon; her beauty her shield. Her justice was her own and it was always delivered starting with a dance.
If you find yourself meeting her eyes, hope to the Gods your heart is lighter than a feather.
