I find it wonderful to see people trying new things that's where the nice "Ah-HAAA" moments come from and a wellspring of ideas burst forth. Can't wait to see what comes of this.

It took me forever how to get just the black and white dots from Newsprint while using the intensity option. :C (no under-lapping of the original image)

i like how you manage to do these tones :) but i think it's better if you use manga studio since it have many tones setting directly from manga stuff :)

i have that program but i haven't gotten it to look quite like i wanted it to but yeah i need to mess with it some more

yeah the problem was is that i wanted the dots to be seen and i kept getting pics that where just flat grays and i wanted that sort of textured look, i think i figured out how to get it to look right though

ah that, you don't have to worry much because on screen, it look not right but when you print them, it work fine.

well i doubt im gonna print them any time soon so thats why im trying to get that look in a pic on the computer

well, it will be very hard to make it workable because if you increase the definition of your pic, you will easily see these dots but if you make a pic of standard definition, it will look blurred. so, it's certainly not possible to make it right.

Oooh. If you find a good zip-a-tone method for GIMP let me know. I've been looking for one for a while.

It's basically how you added half-tones to black and white art prior to the advent of cheap b&W printers that could handle gradients. It would come in sheets that look just like that, up there, you would cut it out with an X-acto knife and paste it onto your boards. I dunno when it got started, but it was common practice when manga was first getting popular so between that and the Pulpy way much manga is made so that's why you see it in manga alot.

ah ok.

well what i did is i just made the shade of gray i wanted and then applied a filter to it called "Newsprint" and messed with it so that the dots over lapped making them black. you can also change the size of the dots and the angle the rows are at
