This is an animal! Not sapient
WRITER BLOCK LIFTED FOR A MOMENT, I WILL WRITE ABOUT A TREX THAT’S SUPPOSED TO BE A DOG, WOLF, HORSE
don't care about the typos I haven't worked on lore through writing for months. Also I did it late at night I'm tired lol
The Gigalowan are a domestic species on Paloris, most believe Baka-Aka domesticated them due to their culture being so in tune with nature, but that is false. The solmen domesticated them, as Gigawo -its ancestor- have a natural fear for Baka-Aka as they’re hunted for their meat and hide. Though Gigawo have a great dislike for Solmen as well, especially ones with young. Solmen tend to keep the history of the Gigalowan short.
Regardless, the Gigalowan are a very popular pet. There’s different breeds, which affect both fur and height. Here’s the wild type depicted, the hair around their feet on most types are shorter. Many owners enjoy styling Gigalowan’s hair, and decorating them in specialized attire. Though the band around their ankle doubles as an identifier and is required on all Gigalowans over the phase of toddlerhood.
Gigalowan are also a worker animal, mostly aiding in transport of Solmen, but there’s an increasing amount of rescue Gigalowan; which are trained to roam on a set path unsupervised between safe heavens, and they’ll approach travelers, lay down to allow them to take what they need or let them climb on if possible. Although Baka-Aka are too heavy to ride them, there’s an sled attached for them to sit on.
Travelers are easy to spot a mile away, their baggage and many colorful attire are hard to miss. The flags are often the traveler’s birth or residence, though that’s only due to tradition. Mittens are often partially made by the rider, if not fully. As they became domesticated, their fingers became more prone to frostbite.
The seat is poseable, as the Gigalowan lean forwards and lower to the ground if there’s high winds. The rider will wrap their arms in the reins and lean into the animal, the fur protects the rider from the cold and it’ll assure them from falling off.
Gigalowan are very loyal to their owners, many owners get one before they can open their eyes and imprint on them. (Although an increasing amount of Gigalowan fans and researchers believe it’s better to leave the young to their mother, but the young will still register as another parental figure) Even if rehoused for any reason, they’ll get loyal to anyone who shows it deep kindness. It’s not too uncommon that a Gigalowan changes its preferred person if there’s multiple owners many times. Gigalowan aren’t only loyal, but also known to be mischievous, as if they’re capable of humour. They might steal, hide, appeal to their owner’s emotions to get what they want. This is why they’re required by law to be trained, so they’re aware of how fragile other beings are around them.
Abuse of a Gigalowan carries heavy sentencing, causing the death of one used to result in a death penalty. Although death sentences aren’t carried out anymore, life sentences are. Gigalowan are deeply beloved by the residents of Paloris, they have almost equal rights of a sapient species, excluding the rights breeding and purchasing of one of course.
