It's amazing what a little bit of orange clean and a good brush and do. These, for some reason, were the only part of the cars interior with this sort of mold damage. The rest was fine. I am not sure why.

I put the one I have yet to clean next to it for comparison.

I had similar luck with the vinyl from the door panels on my '56 Citroen. It cleaned up surprisingly well, although I discovered tears and dry rot that would make it unusable.

A smoker maybe? I know smoke tar can spawn some pretty nasty mold.

The car didn't smell like smoke, the ashtrays were clean and it doesn't have a lighter. I don't know how, but it looks like it avoided smokers most of its life.

I can only assume that the mold developed because humidity inside in the winter, with the visor folded up near the cold roof cause water to condense, and mold to grow.

Well, this is seattle. Humidity is the name of the game here. I am not sure. I was told it was parked in a garage for 6 years.

Hm ... Perhaps if not evaporation, maybe a touch of "Left the vent windows open during a rainstorm."
