Nico's coin is mentioned in The Sun and the Star. Will had it made for him during the events of The Tower of Nero as a token of his love.

I think some fans make Nico more out-and-proud than is in character for him; almost as if they forgot he had a period of internalized homophobia and still only feels comfortable admitting he's gay to those he trusts. That said, I think this is one place he'd feel somewhat more comfortable admitting it. In The Sun and the Star, he mentions that he feels more comfortable sharing his sexuality with mythical figures/creatures, since they're usually not homophobic after having been alive for thousands of years. Not to mention a place like an AB daycare, where people go to express a part of themselves they can't always express in their daily lives, would most likely be very liberal and not care if any of its visitors are gay or transgender or whatever. It probably also helps that Will called Nico his boyfriend on the previous page. Nico is at least comfortable enough to call Will his boyfriend and kiss him on the cheek.

The original pencil sketch made it look like Nico is pressing himself against the caregiver's boob. Maybe I just have a dirty mind. He's gay anyway, so it wouldn't make sense.

A couple of my college classes required me to read Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon, along with a couple of his other books. In one of those books, he talked about how technology and digital art have brought out our inner perfectionists. I believe it. While drawing this, I found myself redrawing and redrawing a few parts until I thought they looked right, much more than I do when I'm working traditionally.
