Behold a preview for an upcoming creative project to give
Hetzer's UTO macro setting a proper codex focusing on the Integration timeline!
This is a joint fan project between myself and
Piershey. The lion's share of the artwork featured was commissioned by them. It's still a work in progress, so things are bound to change, and we still need to get some more illustrations ready before the full version is complete.

A post like this might come across as a surprise to some considering my history working with the setting. I talked quite extensively with Piershey about it, and they cited Disintegration as a big inspiration for their own work before helping me get over some hard feelings I had after writing that series. They actually achieved the impossible with their passion by making me interested in the setting again. In the last six or so years since I've touched this setting, it's been seemingly abandoned by almost every fan artist but Piershey. I ironically considered this a shame, despite feeling vindicated, because Integration was a huge inspiration for my own work. I was obsessed over it for a long while with the magic surrounding the story, the extensive lore, and all the fanart from others.
Worse yet, I learned that many resources essential for aspiring fanfic creators weren't publicly available anymore. The UTO Discord server shutting down altogether means that the future of the setting is basically up in the air. I tried to brush up on my lore knowledge, just to discover that the UTO Codex still wasn't finished yet with tons of errors and reworks from others that added lots of... bloat.
Even the World Anvil version posted in 2021 has its issues with missing entries and typos, incomplete as well.
When talking to Piershey about it, they introduced me to a version of the codex Hetzer wrote himself nearly a decade ago. It's not only fully complete, but quite different from the modern community edited version of the codex covering an extended timeline hundreds of years into the future. We started calling it the classic codex just to distinguish it from the modern one. In some ways the classic codex is actually superior since it just concisely covers the Integration timeline and the invasion of Earth with additional lore the modern codex outright removed, and myself and Piershey weren't really interested in the extended timeline.
So this is a mutual effort between us to create a proper codex with the classic codex as a basis that trims the fat so to speak. An attempt to return to the roots of a story and setting that made it so great. The idea is that we can provide a foundation and resources for any future content creators for the setting, or at least have fun exploring the original lore in a format on par with a professional lore or rule book.
The specifics are still being worked out. File sizes and online distribution might be an issue for the final product. I might also let Piershey post it outright if posting the completed project to my own profile would cause issues or a controversy somehow. Regardless, consider this fan project a love letter to a setting I absolutely loved at one point and still do to some extent.

This will be a MASSIVE undertaking. Not counting fanmade races and other powers across the galaxy, but the incomplete codex had so much information. Very difficult to digest and read through. I for one, was always intrigued by factions joining the UTO, like the Astejean Tripact, but I never got to read about Red Pandas in the stories...
Yeah. It's 69 pages so far on my end. Despite that, it only covers the factions, the original 13 UTO "core" species, and others like the rynar. I think it's something that we'll feasibly get done in a few months though.
But keep in mind we aren't covering the extended timeline introducing Red Pandas or other factions from Homecoming. Hence the 2016 CE designation. The focus is just gonna be around the time Integration and the invasion of Earth takes place.

It's been a while since he's posted anything on this site, yeah, and I'm not sure how often he even logs in here currently. That's not to say he won't eventually become active and start posting again. But in short, the popularity of the UTOverse overwhelmed him a bit, and he needed a mental break that he wasn't quite able to fully achieve while his server was active, hence why the server got put in hibernation (not deleted, though).
That all happened only about three weeks ago, though, on February 1. It's all still pretty fresh, so even if he ends up getting more involved in the setting again, I wouldn't expect him to do so for a while yet.

It's my pleasure!
Unfortunately the current scope is just a blend of pragmatism and my personal lack of interest in the extended timeline. You can currently read the codexes I have linked in the description for any info you need. It's silly how obscure it is to find them at the moment. Either you need to know someone who has a direct Google Docs link, or you somehow stumble into the World Anvil page.
