Here are the exterior shots of this Zenith (Prewar 1940-41) radio I found.
Someone painted it (GAH!)
The dial has no plastic lens, and looks to not have had it for quite a very long time. It's absolutely filthy!
The tone switches are fussy and the wire insulation is no longer flexible. I'm guessing I'll have to take the boards off the switch bezels to pull the chassis from the cabinet.
In it's refinished state: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6118173

Funny thing about this, unlike most electronics today, you /can/ repair this, and it /will/ work once you do. I challenge any of you to do the same kind of restorative work to a radio today.
Don't get me wrong, advanced technology is certinally a wonderful thing, but not when it's designed to be unrepairable.

You know that this thing won't tune FM radio at all, right?
I don't know where you are but here, it seems just a few FM stations that have gone to digital radio.
This thing can still be used for medium wave (usually referred to as AM radio), shortwave radio (international) and probably some other random stuff.
And I don't think this project is really intended to be used for entertainment but shortwave stations are kind of interesting.
