This was something I did today during art block...
Voices of inspiration and doubts...
Should I draw for myself or draw something that would catch the eye?
Been in this kind of situation for awhile... -_-;
Maybe my meaning in this is a bit weak or far off.

When I get like that, I like to draw like a two year old would, and just have fun making silly bad drawings ^.^
Course, these things I never ever post XD But they're amusing, and sometimes help inspire and give way to new drawings.
None the less, always enjoy anything you draw! The passion you put behind your work makes anything inspiring and visually pleasing ^.^

Hmm. I would say, pick a day, any one single full day. On that day only draw something that you want, for yourself. Helps to get it out, sometimes. If it is truly an epic struggle use names in a hat or a dartboard. At least you know you will be drawing something, even if you don't have any idea at first.
I would suggest a "Justice" picture.
What's that? well, a while ago, you posted this Life builders/life destroyers pic. (very moving to me) That reminded me of a comic I have seen.
had a nerdly kid being made fun of/hurt for having an I (heart) unicorns shirt. next frame had a Unicorn goring the tormenters.
Imagine a tormentor kicked by a horse after making fun of an MLP fan...

If you are feeling indecisive on what to draw, then get a stack of 3x5 cards or whatever. Write an idea or subject on a card and lay the card written side down. now write another idea on the next card and add that to the stack. repeat until unable. Shuffle the cards and draw one at random. Draw it.
Oh, of course, but too many people skip working in real media and jump straight into digital. Hand them a set of watercolors or oil paints, or even just something simple like graphite or charcoal, and they're flabbergasted with how to actually use it. It's really rather sad. I got my degree in studio art, which is why I say I'm biased. There is so damn much you only really get from working in traditional media. You have to understand the properties of what you're working with to not come off like a kindergartener scrawling with crayons. There's so much more variety to what you can create that I almost never see from people working digitally. It's always the same overly saturated super-shiny stuff in slightly different styles. The only time I've really seen exceptions to this were artists who learned how to paint with real media *first*, and then translated those skills into digital art.
I'm not attacking people who prefer digital art. That's all well and good, and there are plenty of folks who are really into it. I'm just bored by seeing the same style over and over, and I've always preferred to have a unique finished product I can hold in my hands when I'm done working. To me, that's way more satisfying than only being able to print off copies of the art. The drawback is that traditional media is hard to translate into a digital format as easily as saving your jpg in photoshop. The scans never look as good as the original, but that's the tradeoff. I'm still sticking with my paints and markers. The only thing I could wish was that more artists wouldn't be so afraid to try it. Not having an "undo" button hasn't killed anyone yet. It forces you to come up with creative solutions when you have trouble instead of just erasing your mistakes.

Oh yeah, definitely!
I came from working with prisma colors and gouaches/acrylics and man, it's just damn hard! But that's where I got my skills from (pretty much the foundation of my talent).
The only thing you forgot to mention is that traditional supplies are just damn expensive (I've spent hundreds buying supplies) but I agree again, unlike digital finished piece, you can't hold it and look at it IRL and appreciate that it wasn't aided by a computer program. :)

Dear god yes, they're expensive. I'm not sure anyone's really done the breakdown of supply cost vs. setup cost for a decent tablet and computer and programs to work in. Granted, a legitimate licensed copy of photoshop will run you at least $800, and that's before you buy a tablet or a decent machine. When you look at it that way, paying $4 per prisma marker isn't *quite* as painful. I also get to deduct my supply expenses on my taxes at the end of the year, so that helps a bit. =)
I don't. Never have, and I don't understand those who do, though it happens all the time (I worked for a small art store for several years, and now I work for HL). Maybe that's one reason I get kind of bent out of shape when people whine that my commission prices are too expensive (they're not). XDD I'm not working in a stolen copy of Photoshop with a tablet my mommy bought for my birthday. I have expenses to cover just for the supplies to create a commission, and that doesn't even begin to compensate for the time and skill involved.
Heheh, a mix of all of these in your own balance is what I see makes up who you are as an artist. :3
Draw a few people here with the sexy and cute stuff, practice both types of media, keep it lighthearted when you feel good, and draw out your depression and angst when you're feeling down. It's all you. ;3

I feel you, here... I've been stuck like this for a while myself. Draw for myself, or worry about everyone else... It's a hard choice. In the end, you've jsut gotta have fun with it.. and nothing gets doen without looking and taking care of yourself first. I try to live by that... I forget sometimes though.
I think tomorrow... I'll draw something myself, for the first time in a few weeks... hehe

I say draw for yourself.
When I write my furotica stories, I don't think about the people who are goign ot read it. There are far too many people in the world to please and you simply cannot please everyone. So why bother trying? If art (any kind of art) is your passion, indulge your passion. Your passion. Draw, write, whatever, for yourself and not for others (unless it's a commissioned piece).
I say draw what you want to draw. To hell with everyone else. This is your passion and no one else has any right to dictate what you do with it. If people don't like what you draw, they can go somewhere else. If they like what you draw, then that's great. What matters as an artist, in my honest opinion, is not those viewing it, but the artist creating it. Art is about expression; expression of the one creating.
btw, love the pic. I think it's really cute. I like the "options" presenting themselves.

The council of muses and plethora of replies seem to indicates that there is no *one correct way*, - that you are free to choose what connects with heart/mind/mood/etc at the the moment even then sometimes it can be about your states, at other times for others...that basic sharing/conversing in some sense...
When i don't have a clear sense of what i could do, some sort of inspiration, i either reboot the inspiration or do practice pics.
Rebooting is simple - drop whatever storyline of your life you've been thinking about and do something else for an hour or so - go out for a walk, talk with someone, look at other art, watch a movie, do some gardening, clean your kitchen, take a nap, meditate, dance, exercise, etc...
Otherwise this is a great time to study perspective/anatomy/colour/light/etc and to do practice and experimental sketches, or in digi stuff to practice vector tools, various layer fx.
it's raising that blank canvas sail to catch the wind and who knows where it will take you?

I go through this a lot of the time. I end up drawing a few sketches out, staring at them, and then deciding which are in line to get inked and which of those is getting coloured. Tonight I drew a happy picture, a self doubt couples picture, a sexy male picture, and a slutty female picture. As they say, variety is the spice of life. Just choose what you're cooking and you'll know which spice to use!
Pretty fucking much how I feel in reference to this site. I'd love to think originality and variety would grab attention but that isn't often enough the case. I find myself paralyzed by my options/indecision. I may just go down the list at this point. Gods know I could relate all of that to my life somehow at this point.
At least you have many giving you ideas. Sometimes I'm in middle of a story when it all comes crashing to a halt and I decide that I can't finish because I have envisioned the end being much better than what it's turning out to be. That gets me depressed and that's why I have like 4 stories on hold because of my own self doubt. I'm sure you'll get through yours just as I will get through my own. Eventually. All things in their time.
I favorited this because it's something I ofthen wonder myself: should I do the things I like to see and risk people not even noticing them or caring, or do I try to sell my ideas and just do something that the public enjoys and will pay attension too. It's a big dillema that I too have. So I can identify with this.
