CRUNCH!! ... CRUNCH!!! ... CRUNCH!!
There was a bone-rattling sound of crushed metal every single time the Para took a step. Constantine forced himself to keep his mouth shut, lest he become Pomeline's handkerchief for the rest of the day, but he couldn't help shivering every time Pomeline stepped on another car. 'At least they're all parked...' Constantine reassured himself.
"Conny?"
"H-huh?!" Constantine was literally jarred from his thoughts by the sound of Pomeline's voice, as well as the feeling of it, since her snout vibrated when she spoke.
"You've been kinda quiet," Pomeline noted. "Is there..." Her voice turned sly. "Something wrong~?"
"N-nope! No problems here!" Constantine quickly replied, sweating. "Just uh... enjoying the sights and sounds, with my big, honkin' friend to keep me company?"
"Honkin'?" Pomeline, did just that, right on cue, startling Constantine (even though he knew it was coming). Pomeline laughed. "I love it when you call me that~"
"I mean, it suits you, right?" Constantine said, looking sheepishly at Pomeline's eyes.
"Yeah, it does~" Pomeline said knowingly.
Constantine sighed. 'Whew. Good save,' he thought. 'Now just keep it that way, and-'
GRRRRRRRRGLE
Pomeline stopped, rubbing her belly. "Uh oh. Heh, sorry, Conny. I'm a little hungry. Didn't get a good breakfast since Steppy and I ran out of Fern-O's. Say, you hungry?"
"... Not really?" Constantine said, unsure. "I mean... I don't think my appetite is-"
*grrrgle*
Constantine blushed, both at his belly grumbling mid-sentence and at the fact that his belly grumbles were miniscule compared to the giant Para's. "... Okay, maybe I am kinda hungry," he admitted. Pomeline snickered. Constantine went on. "I uh... appreciate you thinking to ask."
"Wellllllll you know~" Pomeline replied. "Bay would crush me if I didn't take care of you. Hee hee~"
Constantine was about to point out the irony of that statement, but thought it best to keep the though to himself, and not just because of the bet. Besides, he didn't even have time to reply before he felt Pomeline's snout bounce, making huffing noises.
"Uh... Pom?" Constantine asked. "You... smell something?"
"Mmmm... something smells good... What IS that?" Pomeline wondered out loud, continuing to sniff around, and continuing to bounce and shake Constantine in in the process.
Constantine felt himself wanting to tell Pomeline to cool it with the sniffing, but should he do so, the next thing she'd be sniffing would be him. 'Admittedly...' he thought. 'Something DOES smell good...'
Then before he could process any further...
*HONK*
"OOH! FOOD TRUCK!" Pomeline gasped, startling the Compy yet again. Sure enough, there was indeed a food truck up ahead.
Constantine raised a brow, then tensed up when he realized what was about to happen. "Pom, WAIT!"
Pomeline crossed her eyes at Constantine inquisitively. "Hmm?"
"I-I mean, uh..." Constantine put his words together on the fly, thinking of something to say other than advising the Para not to make a sprint for the truck. "Th-there's no way anything in that food is going to be filling enough for you! Yeah, eh-heh..."
Pomeline squinted, but let it slide. "I know, silly! But I can still make sure YOU'RE fed, right?"
"I mean... sure?" Constantine said. "But what will YOU eat?"
"The truck."
"Wait wha-"
*HOOOONK*
Pomeline suddenly charged forward down the street, with Constantine reinforcing his position as he was carried forward with the breeze smacking him in the face.
"Hey! You there! WE WANNA ORDER!" Pomeline bellowed loudly at the truck.
As one would expect, the truck, not wanting to get crushed underfoot, bolted forward, so suddenly that it managed a wheelie for a moment. Nearby pedestrians, including ones who may or may not have wanted to get food themselves stared in shock at the truck burning up the road with a colossal Para hot on its tailpipe.
"Hey come back! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!" Pomeline yelled. "You running away from paying customers?!"
"WOOOOAH!! POM!!" Constantine screeched.
"HMM?!" Pomeline look at him suspiciously again.
"U-uh..." Constantine sighed. "... You better speed up if you don't want it to get away?"
Pomeline grinned. "Hang on tight, then, little biter! ALL ABOARD THE PARA EXPRESS!" HONK HOOOONK!! Pomeline's sped-walked down the street, easily gaining on the truck without her actually running.
Meanwhile, Constantine simply clung to his perch as stubbornly as he could as Pomeline bounced and swayed. He wasn't expecting his sudden rush of adrenaline from Pomeline, though he should've known better. Still, what an adrenaline rush it was, enough to make him momentarily forget about the crushed cars in their wake.
Bright side was, at least he'd be getting a bite to eat soon.
As we continue to follow Pom and Conny on their best day ever, Pom spots a food truck, and is eager for a bite. She pursues it, with a shocked Constantine along for the ride. Looks like he's trying to keep a brave face.
Enjoy!
