Some of you, that have been watching me a while, might remember that about coming on about 2 - 2 1/2 years ago I got myself a rabbit convertible in the hopes of restoring it. However once I got it I found the wiring was a mess and I did get it to the point of turning over but never starting. I took it into a VW place that fixes classic VW stuff and it took them 6 months to look at it but when they did look at it, it was told to me the gas tank was too rusted, the fuel pumps were gone and mainly the whole wiring and fuse box was totally gone. He also told me that it had alot more body rust then I was able to notice when I had the car and it wasnt really a good choice for restoring.
Well thats where this comes in. This is a convertible he had he did work on but got stuck with when a guy brought it in and ran up 2K of work on it and about when it was done bailed. The mechanic let me have it for the work owed from the other guy *as it was turned over to the mechanic on a mechanic lean for unpaid work* for about 2k$
This one is better functionally in every way compaired to the other. The seats are bearly damaged and its just slight ripping. All the panals and gauges are there. All the windows seem to work. Radio and stuff is intact. No body rust, alot more trim, and its a new model an 1988 instead of an 1980. It's also an automatic. I dont like the bumper though, so I am thinking of replacing it with my 1980's bumper and the 1980 has factory custom 14inch aluminum rims, which I'm thinking of keeping. So I'll have some part swaping I'll be doing for sure,
The best thing is its just 1 payment from being paid off, but it still does need a fuel tank to be installed. Its the only thing that wasnt done before the last guy bailed on it, so that is to be done as soon as the mechanic gets a bay open. He is the only VW classic shop in I think over 500 miles or more cause he said he had people as far as canada come down to get work done.

Well it looks like it has too, 1. the mechanic said he got it to start before parking it with a gascan on a ladder, so he is pretty sure nothing else is wrong. However mainly 2. you can see *mainly on the inside* that most of its perfect where the other one the whole inside was trashed and falling apart.
Well even reading reviews today they still seem reliable. I'm hoping that will be the case. The electornics on the last one was shot but so was everything. Someone made a bad case worse by like ripping every wire almost out and just leaving them there and I had no idea what went where. Hopefully this one should be a bit better :D
Hope so. Good luck with it. They're great with gas mileage, and are dirt cheap to fix.
I had a love//hate with my fox: It was beyond its last leg/whee, so I just needed something big to break, but by god, that damned thing wouldn't die, and when it did, the damned mechanic was so cheap to fix.

Nice, good luck with it. I personally would still consider it an A1 chassis since it wasn't bigger and heavier like the A2, even with the other changes.
I have two Foxes, one isn't running though and needs cleaning up and stuff badly. They're something of a black sheep in the VW family but I love them anyways.
