Aikine channeling some magic from her spellbook.
Drawn by ShenzaiBird for her Glowy and Magic sale, which is still happening!

While she is from my D&Dish setting based on Greyhawk, I don't know Aikine would like that. As I've written her personality so far, she's very much giving the vibe of an Unchosen One.
She had a large number of disadvantages, such as being a lost child who had to find her way back to her people after being raised by Avariel, her studying arcane magic in a culture that AT BEST distrusts it, and she's an Asari (the smaller, rarer race living with the Thordani). While she doesn't disbelieve in gods inherently (as such is very much silly in a setting where gods give their priests direct power and influence events in tangible ways), she's also not particularly inclined to ask for their opinions, guidance, or help on anything she's doing. She's gotten by fine so far without prostrating herself before one, and she doesn't need to start now.
Or, more succinctly, a quick summation of how I view Aikine talking with people about some of her former goals.
"Hey, I want to (leave the Avariel and find my people/learn arcane magic/become a trustworthy member of Thorsari society despite knowing arcane magic)." "You can't do that because (it's hard)." "Well, thanks for the advice, but I wasn't asking for permission, so now I'm going to do it anyways just to prove you wrong."
