The feline and her slightly older canine brother looked down on the city engulfed in flames. It was thankfully a quiet night, then again, for the past long while it has been very quiet. She never would have imagined the view she was seeing before her.
“How do you feel?” his gruff voice asked.
“Satisfied,” she said simply.
Truthfully, it was like memories being burned from her mind. All the bad things, all the good things, all the mediocre days she had lived in this city. They were all leaving her mind. She looked back at her only remaining family member and smirked.
“Is it not poetic that the same force that pushed us from this city is now destroying it?” she asked.
“I suppose it is. Although this city has been dying for a long time now.”
The feline woman wrinkled her nose. She was not sure if it was just this city that was dying or if it was most of the world that was killing itself from the inside out. They had traveled far and each city they passed through was in a state of despair. She was beginning to think that this city was being saved rather than destroyed.
She admitted that it was just as much a savior for herself though. With the void burned in her memories now perhaps there would be less nightmares to deal with. Less nightmares meant more sleep, which would always be appreciated.
“Well, the show is over here,” he canine said. He offered her his paw to stand up with. “Time to move on.”
She took his paw and pushed herself to her foot-paws. As the canine jumped from the building, she glanced back one last time and smiled.
“Finally moving on,” she whispered before following the others lead.
