short history:
The State of Gold Ring, a small yet strategically significant nation nestled south of the Republic of Merso, has long been defined by its precarious position around the shores of the Kutziwalt Lake. Its history is one of resilience and survival, caught between the ambitions of larger powers. In 1990, when the United States of Kutziwalt launched its invasion of Merso, Gold Ring found itself thrust into the conflict as a reluctant ally of Kutziwalt. Though small in size, Gold Ring's ports and access to the lake made it a valuable asset, and its leaders believed that aligning with Kutziwalt would ensure their survival. However, this decision would prove to be a double-edged sword.
When the Mersorkan forces began their counteroffensive, Gold Ring became a prime target. The Mersorkans, desperate to secure the lake's southern ports to cut off Kutziwalt's supply lines and establish a foothold for their own operations, saw the conquest of Gold Ring as a critical objective. The Gold Ring military, though determined, was ill-equipped to face the advanced weaponry and tactics of the Mersorkans. Their arsenal, largely composed of outdated BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles and T-55/T-62 tanks sold to them by Kutziwalt, was no match for the Mersorkan armored divisions, which boasted cutting-edge technology and superior firepower.
The Battle of Gold Ring City in late June 1991 marked a turning point in the conflict. As Mersorkan forces advanced into the heart of the country, the streets of Gold Ring City became a battleground. Among the Mersorkan troops was Sergeant Katsuki Fitzgerald, a seasoned tank commander known for his tactical acumen and unyielding determination. Fitzgerald's M-444/4 tank, a modernized variant outfitted with additional armor and survivability enhancements, became a symbol of Mersorkan ingenuity and resilience. The image of Fitzgerald's tank rolling through the war-torn streets of Gold Ring City, with a destroyed Gold Ringer tank smoldering in the background, encapsulates the brutal reality of the conflict. The Gold Ringer tank, likely a T-62, had been struck by an anti-tank weapon, its crew unable to withstand the overwhelming force of the Mersorkan advance.
Above the city, the skies were equally chaotic. Mersorkan and Kutziwalt fighter planes engaged in fierce dogfights, their contrails crisscrossing the horizon as they vied for air superiority. The date, June 28, 1991, would later be remembered as one of the bloodiest days in Gold Ring's history. Despite their valiant efforts, the Gold Ring forces were overwhelmed, and by the end of the month, the city had fallen to the Mersorkans. The capture of Gold Ring's ports provided the Mersorkans with a crucial advantage, enabling them to launch further offensives into Kutziwalt territory.

(Tank tism enjoyer here)
The burning tank in the background more closely resembles a T-55 with the turret and gun mantlet shape (though the gun doesn't match the T-55 or T-62, lacking bore evacuators, so maybe T-54?) It's also hard to tell with the road wheels, where the T-62 has more evenly spaced apart wheels, where the front roadwheel is noticeably separate from its other wheels on T-55/54.
The general setting is pretty cool tho, always had an interest in these kinds of things ^^
