I think that the relatively low number of views for this image might be due to the thumbnail being so dark that the quality of the work was indiscernable. If I were trying to maximize pageviews, I'd design the art to be viewed as a thumbnail - bold and bright would be more important than skill. Rembrant would have been a loser if prospective viewers had to pass through the narrow low resolution gate of a thumbnail.
that's actually a really good point that i hadn't thought of. however, it might just be easier to make my own thumbnails. . . i'll try to make a thumbnail for this and re-loading it - see if that helps. *shrugs* if all else fails, i'll just have to leave a note that some pieces like this might need a readjustment to a monitor to make them easier to see.
Making your own bolder and brighter thumbnails is an excellant idea. When I originally purchased my Dell 19" LCD monitor, I was unhappy with its ability to depict dim scenes. I first performed the simple calibration sequence, then the adanced one, and the difference was amazing. There wasn't much of a change on bright scenes, but the improvement was termendous on dim ones. There is a lot more variation from unit to unit with LCDs than with CRTs. Everyone who loves art should calibrate a new monitor, and repeat the process after a few months.
The standard FA color scheme - bright bluewhite background - could not be worse for displaying dark art, especially thumbnails. I use the optional dark grey background color scheme, but I doubt that many do. This piece really does remind me of Rembrant's luminous darkness...
