This is the chassis from the 7S547 1940 Zenith radio I rescued from destruction.
It's been repaired before, possibly more than once. Its transformer is not original and the replacement appears to not be OEM. There are capacitors that have been spliced in, in two places, and at least two spots where wires have been snipped off. There is also an odd mix of conventional vinyl cased wire and woven cased. Naturally the braided cloth wire while dry and messy with tar is still in good enough shape. The vinyl wire is about as flexible as dried FIMO. GAH! And there's quite a bit of it.
Now that it's on the bench it is currently not receiving any AM stations even with everything hooked up. So ATM I'm at odds as to whether I just want to restore the cabinet and make a nice display piece (Since I don't listen to AM anyway) or actually try and chase down this things' old gremlins. I suppose I could also tap in before the amplifier which still works and connect an audio device to it.
