Everlasting dog’s love
1-This story starts with two loves and ends with two loves, a seven-year-old girl named Kimberly whose life and understanding of It was barely starting and her father, who loved her deeply, whose life was ending.
Her father had cancer that perhaps could be cured but it was an extremely pricy treatment and there was no guarantee for improving his health. So, he decided not to spend too much on his treatment and endured terrible pains to save money for his wife and Kimberly.
He spent plenty of quality time with them and on his final couple of days he gave a puppy to her daughter, her first pet. It was a puppy as black as what would happen to her. Her dad told her his love would live on through that dog and she believed him.
2-After His father’s passing Coal, the puppy, became her pampered pet all the while her love for her own mother, her own self and her former friends was dying out. After the passing she became antisocial, low energy and she constantly got spooked that nothing nice aside from death ever last. She always wore something black and soon after she had nothing colorful on her room or wardrobe.
Her mom quitted a great teaching job to become a full housewife for her sake, trying to rescue her from what she thought it was a destructive lifestyle. But she later realized it was her decision as both grew old.
3-What didn’t grow old was Kimberly’s love for coal. She was quite motherly with him, one would say coal was the true, unconditional love of her life, that and a boy named Bryce.
Kimberly and Bryce were childhood friends and neighbors, both were quite a handful when they were little, and they were very close until Kimberly…changed
All her friends abandoned the freaky girl but him, because even as a little boy he was a loyal boy, and he saw her more as a friend than anything else. She was so unpopular that even Bryce lost his own friends because of the close contact with her.
He not only endured it all but grew quite fond of her despite her complete indifference and even mean demeanor, they could not be more opposite, by the time both were around 16 years old, she was a goth, and he was a quite formal and centered boy who perhaps was a hopeless romantic. He dreamed of changing her someday more to his liking and to see her smile more.
4-Around Coal she was completely different, life sparkled in her eyes, and she was so happy around him. Both her and Bryce took turns taking care of Coal, she hogged him 70% of the time and Bryce would take him for walks and train him.
When both man and woman went to college together. Kimberly was bullied and Bryce was overpowered, he couldn’t quite defend her, but he wished he did.
One dark, horrible, not good day Kimberly bullies followed her home and coal defended her, as the bullying got out of hand. Coal became so fierce he drew blood from them, and they ran away, he gave chase, but a car hit him fast and hard.
5-Coal survived against all diagnosis more than the most sorrowful two weeks Kimberly ever lived. This was even worse than when his dad passed since he was resting now but dogs, do they even have spirits?
Bruce was distraught as well more for Kimberly’s state than for Coal. Browsing Kimberly’s library, a book caught his eye, a book about magic and spiritism.
6-Being a bit desperate, he stole the book and gave it a quick, intensive read over a week’s period.
He found a way to give life to coal again, he would be reborn as a puppy and would retain part of his former self. This all seemed too good.
He learned the incantations by heart, he just had to get close to Coal. And he did that afternoon, Kimberly was crying her heart out more than usual and Coal was next to her, in an urn, all that remained of him was ash.
Bryce hated himself, he was so focused on the book and so enthusiastic on the result that he somehow forgot to check on Kimberly or Coal for an entire week.
He needed coal to be alive, and to have a body, neither requirements could be met now.
7-Not being an easy quitter, he was able to try to console the brokenhearted Kimberly to some degree, and he stole part of Coal’s ashes when nobody was looking.
After heading home Bryce did the ceremony and seemingly nothing happened, then the wind blew, and the ashes dispersed on top of him. He fainted, and he dreamt of Coal, alive, even younger. Coal begged him to let him live in a new body, his body.
Even as it was a dream, Bryce was sweating and spooked, what should he answer? If he said no what would happen to Coal’s spirit? And if he said yes what would happen next?
8-Soon after Bryce was barely able to undress in time, as his whole body was changing, little did he knew that his “dream” was so real that his body followed suit.
Bones and muscles were growing shorter, much shorter, it was incredibly painful, and Bryce wanted to scream. He didn’t, not while his family were sleeping nearby.
As his skin and frame got shorter black fur sprouted all over him, fur that elongated as a human mop, Coal was a black Komondor so it made sense, but he couldn’t think.
9-His mind was growing feral, he had trouble thinking or focusing on something, reacting to his pain, his voice was changing from unintelligible words to actual barking, while he was half a human, half a dog.
His feet and hands became paws.
10-His body structure became that of a dog and his face…
11-Reshaped into that of a puppy. He became Coal when he was given as a present to Kimberly as a little girl. Her dad’s last present, a few weeks old puppy dog.
12-Following his nose and instinct, the new Coal went to Kimberly’s house and barked outside.
Somehow, she recognized that barking, it belonged to Coal although it sounded more like an infant dog that the old dog Coal died as.
Kimberly should have rejected him, or slammed to door shut upon this last joke from destiny, she should but…
He was so cute!!!
She picked him up and hugged him and named him Coal again, her body was tired from all those sleepless nights and in less than half an hour she was sound asleep in her room with Coal sleeping on her lap.
13-Bryce disappeared for a few days; she didn’t question where he was as happy as she was with her new puppy.
After her mourning period was over Kimberly returned to college and back to her horrible, not so nice life except for the latest gift from the universe or whatever, Coal.
Soonish after Bryce returned to school as well, he didn’t know how, it seems that Coal and he had a borrowed life, at times Coal would be dominant, at times Bryce.
14-You would wonder how Bryce adapted to all of this and how his life went, easy, he spent more and more time with Kimberly both as a puppy and as a college student and found happiness he never knew, as Kimberly when he was a puppy treated him with lots and lots of love. As for Bryce, he treated him well, better than ever and grew closer to him, all because one day she returned an hour too soon to her college dorm.
Bryce was getting a hang on changing from one form to another, the coal puppy was on her bed, she was walking to her room when she heard noises that were quite strange. Somehow, she was not scared…
15-She witnessed how her puppy grew larger, much larger, and how his hair receded into naked human flesh, man’s flesh.
16-His claws became human hands and feet once more
17-And his snout pushed inside forming a human head while his barks became human screams, until Bryce was there.
This happened in perhaps less than a minute and she fled before he was fully human and realized she was there.
Was this Bryce? Was this Coal? How?
18-She didn’t know what to think or feel, but she kept this a secret, even from Bryce her “friend” or “dog” or whatever.
She peeked at many of his transformations unnoticed and rather scared, she was intrigued and came to like seeing him change and play dumb on him.
Every time he changed forms it was incredibly painful. He also renounced his life for being with her, to always be next to her.
She realized how much he loved her, and she wept on the inside of her heart.
19-She remembered her own childhood, his father endured great pain to allow his remaining family to live nicely after his passing even as he could have spent it all in a selfish desire to live longer.
Her own mom was a brilliant academic, she gave up her old high paying job for a low budget one that allowed her to be close to her daughter, Kimberly. She always had the chance to have the life she wanted to have but she preferred to take care of an ungrateful, rebellious daughter.
Love was there for Kimberly all along, those that left her were stupid. And she was stupid as well, and a coward.
20-The passing of months was fast until two years passed and Coal was not a puppy anymore but a young adult dog so to speak in human terms. Every day was torture, every night was torture thinking about how to repay Bryce and Coal for the sacrifice they made for her every single day.
She found the magic book (the one Bryce took a few years ago) in its place, this time she was going to read it not as entertainment, she would look for clues to what happened to Bryce.
She got closer to Coal’s urn, and she chanted, trying to do the same things that Bryce did to understand him better, all the while he was at college and “Coal” disappeared, she giggled upon this.
As she said the final words the wind blew…
21-She felt strange, quite strange, something was happening.
Her hands were burning up, and she could see and feel a black padding growing on top of her palm while her fingers shortened into paws. Black fur grew on top of her deforming hands.
22-She fell to the ground as her shoes broke and were contorting into paws as well. If she did her homework, she would have known that Coal was not the only dog that died on that property, a lady dog died as well many, many years ago and took this as a golden opportunity.
23-Kimberly tried to rise, tried to speak but her tongue elongated more and more while doggish drool wetted her dress, she was losing her ability to speak, to think, to reason clearly.
24-Her green eyes became yellowish, and her face was pushing out, it was painful yes, but in a good way.
25-Her blossoms were shortening all the while two new sets of teats appeared underneath.
26-She also grew a tail, and it wagged on its own.
27-Soon her female human body was being reshaped into that of an Afgan hound, a quite rare breed as Coal was.
28-Finally, her face stopped transforming and Kimberly was not there anymore.
29-After Bryce came back, he found the new Kimberly and almost by instinct turned into Coal, she was crying and scared, he licked her snout.
30- “I don’t know what happened to me, or who is the most stupid, you for hiding this from me or me for following your lead.”
Kimberly was still there, almost dormant, but there, she couldn’t tell what the future would hold for both and even reason as a human being…yet. But one thing was for certain, she would realize as time went by that to love and to be worthy of love one has to sacrifice as well…
