Yiffaine did everything right. The dragon was about to destroy all life on the planet, in the service of waking up an even more powerful, older being. He could open portals at will to transport himself far away, and his begging for mercy were no doubt only a ploy to cast another to flee. Striking him down as soon as she could was the right thing to do, and she even thought Lux himself thanked her for her deed, as the death of the creature conjured a vision of Him in her mind.
But as she meditated and pondered, she realized He wasn’t Lux… not exactly, at least. He was fully divine, had bolstered her strikes against the beast as Lux would, and certainly was associated with Light. Yet, He wasn’t the Lux she felt and followed since her childhood, the familiar presence fully replaced by the new one. Her silent pleads went unanswered as she looked up to the heavens, hoping for a sign that she did good in Lux’s name, as she always did.
A scene of a TTRPG I'm doing, were my paladin Yiffaine (I love that name :D) had to seriously reflect on the nature of what she thought was a rightful act, but that may very well have sever her divine connexion permanently. The jury is still out there for this one, as the game is still ongoing...
