My final for my painting class last semester
Don't feel like writing much of a description, so here's a summary:
It's a self-portrait based on a series of repetitive dreams I've had over the past few years involving me pulling a raven out of my skull and a swallow from my chest.
This was my first piece I ever built and stretched myself. It's also the largest painting I've ever done: 36"x72". Some of the acrylic is iridescent.
I got an A.
This big boy is being shipped to Chicago to be placed in a gallery, hopefully to be sold. It's far too large for me to even look at anymore. It also burned a hole in my wallet, costing me a grand total of $289.63 to create, even after using coupons and buying my canvas CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP from my ceramics professor. I hope to sell this for at least $1000 while it sits up in Chicago, but if it doesn't sell within 6 months my dad will buy it from me with a discounted price of $700. Yay college money!
Funny story about this piece... it wouldn't fit in my car, so in order to transport it I had to drive one-handed with my hand sticking out the sun-roof, holding it by its bracers.
Another funny story about this piece... I was walking across campus once and the wind picked up, snatched this big boy out of my hand, and it flew ALLLLLL the way across campus and BAM, finally came down. The canvas had a nice big rip and I was depressed all day until my professor taught be how to repair it. It lives again!
