Trellian sat in the tub with a content sigh. A duck in water was a happy duck after all. A small fairy stopped by to watch him, sitting out of sight where the fae often dwell, just at the corner of the vision of mere mortals. It heard him mutter.
“I wish I never had to leave the bath.” The fairy contemplated his request, and seeing how happy he was decided it would grant his wish. His feathers turned to a rubber sheath as his body shrunk down, bones melting as he quacked in dismay. There was nobody to hear his distressed calls that went from cries for help to the squeaks of the bath toy he had become. Peacefully floating atop the water in the bath that he would never have to leave.
It’s work done, the fairy flew off with a smile, looking for other mortals to bless with their wishes.
The lesson here, be careful what you wish for. You never know who, or what might be listening.
