Someone dropped off a big old CRT TV at the Burrow for repair.
Sully, who's too young to have experienced watching one, wondered what the customer saw in it. Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a new flatscreen TV with much higher resolution and picture quality?
An odd opinion for a ferret whose clothes were full of stitches and patches. Sully's ethos was that you shouldn't give up on things if you know how to keep them going. It was an even stranger opinion for a so-called "retro" gamer who should definitely appreciate the value of preserving a CRT.
Emmet set Sully's remarks aside, taking it as yet more evidence that his assistant was a typical young person. Young people always think they know more than they understand. They don't seem to realize that things outside their generational frame of reference might still have value to someone.
And Emmet felt confident in his superior understanding until he started wondering why the TV seemed to have gained mass.
To be fair, Sully wanted to familiarize himself with the maintenance manual, and that's hard to do while walking without bumping into things. This way he'd be fully informed by the time they got to the back rooms.
Sully set Emmet's grumbling aside, taking it as yet more evidence that his boss was a typical old person. Old people all believe that success comes from "hard work", and that everybody has to put in their "fair share". They don't seem to realize that one person's laziness is another person's efficiency.
