The Halifax Queer Ensemble is a 2SLGBTQ+ artist-led music ensemble based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I'm one of its members, and generally perform piano (as heard in this recording), although we as members of the ensemble don't stick to one single instrument and generally try to deconstruct how we approach traditional orchestra music by, well... queering it up :0)

This is the arrangement I wrote for the ensemble of Vashti Bunyan's "Here Before" from her 2005 album "Lookaftering", which is one of my favourite albums. Vashti has an impeccable knack for writing gorgeous and deeply catchy folk music, and her voice is just phenomenal. The actual recording of her song on the album has some reversed glockenspiel samples and feels very ethereal, so I tried to replicate that by writing the motifs in the song in a way that they weave together almost like a round.
