I'd really appreciate some responses for this, if you guys don't mind.
I recently ordered and received these fabric tags to attach to my stuff.
I think one of the most commonly overlooked things in handmade accessories & soft toys is that, while they are the work of an artist just as much as a painting or a drawing or something, they cannot be easily signed. :]
I ordered these tags as a way to hopefully make sure that, from now on, any products I send out are clearly marked as my work.
HOWEVER. I really don't want to compromise the finished product. I realize some commissioners may not want a tag hanging off of their character's butt, or something, yet at the same time I would really like to prevent my work from being claimed by others or even for the person in question to completely forget who made their toy / bag / scarf, etc.
Do you guys have any suggestions, thoughts or opinions on the matter?
As it stands right now, ALL bags and scarves that I make will be sent out with a tag sewn on. Right now I'm not implementing this policy with plush toys, but I am very tempted to.
So -- past and future commissioners (or whoever, really, haha) -- what do you think? Would having a tag sewn on your commission (or even pre-made pickup) bother you or distract you from the finished product?
I'm tempted to just make it optional, but again, that just lets me fall right back into the same boat as before. I don't want my work stolen and I want to be able to easily claim credit for everything I make.
I realize that someone could potentially just cut it off, too. :P But at least this would make it a little less likely.

(There are some others if you search around -- may even be cheaper, but I chose to get mine from her because she is FAST and super friendly & accommodating. Also, I like getting stuff from independent sellers.)

Personally, for plushes and such, I prefer tags that are sewn on in a way that they're not hanging off. Like flat underneath a character's butt or something similar for sitting ones, or bottom of the foot for standing. Or, alternatively, an earring tag... those don't seem to get in the way of cuddling too much either. Either way, I'd much rather -have- a tag than not have one, because I love being able to say "Yeah, I got this from that awesome vombatiformes! See, I can prove it!" ;D
So one day when you're famous, I can have something I can insure for a million dollars in case my house burns down so I can be rich!

I absolutely think your products should have tags! All of them C: Especially plush. It's incredible how much more professional they look with a tush tag. Tags are also a good way to tell apart different artists works, and I would venture to say a good way to prevent art theft--someone claiming they made your plush.
Bags and scarves would also look nice with tags, though I guess it's all down to placement. With something that's worn, like those, it'd be ideal to put them on the inside or tucked away somewhere so as not to distract from the product itself.
I think the tags look awesome! I really like the design and they look very well made.

I like your tags a lot. I recently got a handmade bear and the gal uses a little pearl on the ear as a mark to show it's hers. Maybe you could do the same with your plushies, if you don't want to use the tags on them. Great idea though. Plus, it lets the people who bought it remember where they got it and if they want to order more, presto! It's a nice reminder.
They look cute!..
Maybe you could look into smaller tags for stuffy wuffs, or consider different options of attaching them. I've always liked the look of safety pinned tags like with a small pin and maybe a twine string, more of a hang tag than a tush tag.. that way it can be removed if wanted.. or sewing them on flat on the bottom, that way it's there, but it's not hanging out all over the place, and is less distracting.

There's always the thing that if people really want to steal your thing, they can cut off the tag. Hopefully no one does that, though. And people who do like you and respect your work will like to be reminded who they got it from.
I myself doubt I will ever forget where I got my plushie xD

I think tags are classy. For small plushes, you could ask the commissioner where they prefer the placement: sewed to a nondamaging (if tugged accidentally) seam on the rear, sewn on collar-style, or sewn flat on the belly; for big plushes, they could hang from the ear or be sewn flat inside the ear. I think fabric tags are an especially nice texture variant when sewn flat onto the belly, flank, rear or inside the ear. For washcloths, etc. that need to be laundered often and require their rough yarn texture to work, you could just baste the tag on the edge so the customer can snip it off and have something to remember your signature by.
Put a tag on everything. I make sketchbooks and make sure to label every one. I've argued with myself on "ruining" the aesthetic vs protecting my creations and in the end, you really have to protect your product and create an identity.
Plus the tag makes 'em look awesome and "official" if you get what I mean.

It would be a very smart idea to tag your crafts, all of them that CAN be tagged. It's a neat little touch that I think items like bags, plushies, etc need. It protects your items from other claiming them as theirs instead of giving you credit. Plus, I just think it's a neat idea in general.
