Before I got around to doing this review I did everything to unlock all the trophies (excluding two I'll unlock just playing with my friends) so I could give my opinion on the overall game.
First we'll start with everything I like. The graphics look amazing (especially the food), all the weapons and armor look great, and with access to both gender's outfits you can dress however you want. Food powers are now time based so you can do multiple hunts before having to eat again, and u can just cook anywhere with the grill. The monster selection is excellent, while it has a few monsters less than Rise at launch it has way more original monsters. The story is overall good (though to be fair it's the exact same premise of every other monster hunter, but hey who really cares) with some returning characters from MH4. Combat is smooth and in the maps you can just jump into any hunt you want in high rank. The binoculars make getting all the gold crowns actually a possible thing u can do. being able to change time and seasons at camp also makes it easier to get certain monsters. being able to swap between two weapons in the field opens up strategy builds and got me to main 2 weapons. There's plenty of good things and fun in this game.
Now onto all the problems. First, the low rank story is unfriendly to multiplayer. Unlike Rise you can't progress through the story together doing the same quest needed to progress unless your friends are ahead of you in the game. playing together is also more complicated then it has ever been as you have squads, link parties, and the mass lobbies (if you want to play with your friends without much trouble first you have to meet up in a Link party or mass lobby and send them friend requests, then invite them to your squad, and then u can play together in the squad lobby). The there's the wound system, it causes monsters to often flinch whenever you break one which makes hunting unnecessarily easier. I'm also not a fan of how you Palico works in this game. In World you had a selection of different gear your Palico could use to focus on specific specialties, but in Wilds you Palico basically has all of them which not only removes any player choice from the type of Palico you want, but it also makes hunting easier as well because the Palico will often heal you with a short recharge for the ability. I'm also not a fan of the fishing mini-game. In older games you just cast your line and mash A when a fish bites it which happens often as they're all attracted to the bait. In Wilds you need to use specific bait for certain fish and catching a big fish is a lot more work than it has ever been which usually wouldn't be a problem since fishing is optional, however you need 6 of a certain big fish to build and max out the only joke weapon in the game. The paintball is also a useless item that serves absolutely no purpose. The camp building system is unnecessary as it's not really worth building in risky places when the safe spaces are just as good if not better.

The biggest problem is the Seikrets as they take away more from the player than any other mechanic. The birds basically act as taxis that take you wherever you want to go, but this mean players have no reason to learn the layout of maps or to run on their own as the maps are designed with paths only Seikrets can take and controlling them is worse than the Palamutes in Rise. anything you need to find on the map the Seikrets can take you there no problem, which means you have hardly any reason to explore outside of finding some endemic life. After playing the game for over a hundred hours I still can't remember the layout of any maps which is the opposite of GU or even Rise as while Palamutes can be taxis you do need to explore to find humming birds which makes you learn the map to get the most efficient route.
Overall, while I did enjoy my time with Wilds the game has enough problems to lower its score (especially the PC port). I give this game a 8 out of 10 for a great game, and that score is likely to improve though title updates just like World and Rise.
