She wasn't expecting to find company, even less a welcome committee and, in a way, she didn’t get one; the moment she stepped inside the weight of their stares fell on her shape: one filled with quiet hesitation, the other with blatant scrutiny. The big red dragon stepped down from his 'throne', each squeaky movement purposefully calculated. The vinyl hide gleamed under the soft bedroom light, his expression twisted in a mixture of superiority and disdain, as though her very presence disrupted a delicate balance he had no interest in sharing.
She wasn’t sure what she had expected when she finally found a place to call home, but an instant power struggle hadn’t been on the list.
