Another absolutely beautiful piece from justatinyguy on bluesky linked here https://bsky.app/profile/justatintguy.bsky.social and twitter linked here https://x.com/justatinyguy98
So this character literally came to me in a dream. No joke. I woke up and immediately tried to remember all I could because the idea was fun and I got to work. Idunno if my dreams were inspired by a memory long forgotten. But for now I'll consider this species my original idea~ so I really really hope you all enjoy my Eldritch monster from another plane of reality~ Figuring out a name for her species was truly difficult

There are many worlds that exist aside from our own. The spirit realm. The realms of Hades. Lands of magic and intrigue. But some realms are far less well known. Some contain creatures and rules far beyond our understanding. Me’vana is from one such world.
She calls her home the seventh floor. Though she has never explained why or what it truly is. She takes the humanoid form of a beautiful elegant woman. A painter who enjoys drawing landscapes. However what people don't know is that this is how she feeds. When she paints a person. They're whisked away to the seventh floor. Which takes the form of the person's greatest desires. Making sure they're happy to remain there. As time goes on she feeds on the emotions through the seventh floor. The person she takes provides a lifetime's worth of food. As such she doesn't find herself feeding often. With only a meal or two every few decades. Due to this she's rather picky about who she takes. The ones full of delicious emotions. Who either won't be missed or their disappearance celebrated. She's never in a rush for prey after all.
To her memory there have been two cases of her prey escaping the seventh floor. Both cases coming with complete amnesia. Unaware of who they were and what wicked force had taken them. She simply left them to their fates to reclaim yet another prize. The first was back during the dawn of mankind. A man who had burned down a village not for glory but for revenge. When he escaped her clutches he was long forgotten by the world. And with no memories of his own he was easy prey for a wandering bear. The second was a much more recent example. A serial killer in old London. In his escape from the seventh floor he found himself dropped into the middle of the ocean. For the dimensions of the seventh floor are nonsensical and confusing to the eyes of a human. He drowned shortly after.
However. She cannot be perceived by ordinary humans. At least not typically. There are only 3 cases where she is visible to humans. First are the escapees of the seventh floor. They know the truth of the fabric of reality and can see her clearly. The second are humans who have experienced true deep loss. The loss of someone closer than any other could be. And the final is any humans she allows to see her. Typically those she takes an interest in. Though she has to reveal herself to her prey before painting them. Otherwise they cannot be taken. If someone sees her she doesn't want to. She simply eats their memories as a light snack
She often appears as crazy to those who can perceive her due to her lack of understanding with strange human concepts such as boundaries or fear of stalkers. Often staring at people while they sleep to observe both them and their dreams. As well as occasionally entering them. For the realm of dreams is simply another plane of reality to traverse. And the dreams of this realms residents are so easily molded to whatever she wishes. She's driven by boundless curiosity to discover every little detail about humans. Their thoughts, their dreams, even their tastes and scents~ and she will discover it all eventually
So watch your dreams at night. Look out for the painter of realities. And be careful not to step onto the seventh floor. For if you do. You may never leave~
