SPECIAL THANKS:
lucca
Lucca celebrated his birthday on March 2nd. To fully enjoy the day, we went to a local ceramics shop where you can paint your choice of figures. I was nervous to try painting, as I haven't done any physical art since I lost the rest of my eyesight in 2016, but Lucca showed me this darling figure and I just couldn't resist.
All the painting you see on this piece, with the exception of the eyes and beak, was done by me. I took a very hands-on approach to paint this cutie and, upon getting it back from the store after they had put it through the kiln, I believe it came out really well. No longer shall I let my lack of physical eyesight get in the way of me doing art!

Thank you, Oxnard. It really meant a lot to FINALLY try and do something artsy after all these years. (For whatever reason, I have struggled in doing things that I once did when I was sighted. I think it is due to how I overthink how different the outcomes are from having vision to being without any eyesight. I really and truly need to get better at not comparing my current self to my past self.).
Well, I tried to make sure the shell was thoroughly painted white before I moved on to painting the chick itself. The shell helped to determine where the chick's body ended and the shell began. However, as I know happened, I could only be accurate to a certain degree by using just one hand to feel the piece as I used the other to paint each respective spot.

It is good to hear from you again Starburst. I hope that you've been doing well.

Thank you, Sweetie. This adorable chick is extra special as it was the first piece of art I have ever physically worked on since losing all my eyesight.
I feel quite silly for not really taking much interest in doing physical art for so long. There are definitely plenty of ways that someone with no eyesight can still paint, draw pictures, etc. I think I just worry too much about how different things will look compared to how they would look when I still had eyesight.
I am hopeful to try and do more art in the future. I have some ideas for trying to draw again, but I need to acquire a few special tools to help me out.

One tool is something referred to as a 'Bump Dot'. It is like a sticker you put on to a surface that sticks up like a button to identify a particular spot on the surface that you are drawing on. I would use these to help mark where I ended the drawing of a solid line to help identify where I left off in creating the picture. There is also a special kind of pen, which is kind of like a marker, which makes thick lines and is easier to use if you are someone with low, or no, vision. These two items should allow me to draw a picture in a way that is close to how I used to be able to draw before I lost all my eyesight. :)
