They both belong to the hymenopterans, but hornets aren't as aggressive as their relatives, the wasps.
(I only can speak about the european version here.)
I once walked under a waspnest, doing nothing and they get angry and swarm after me.
Another time, my brother showed my a friggin huge hornet-nest in an old barn, and we were able to come close, and the hornets did nothing.

Spamming is fine for me.
Hornets can be realy dangerous if they go into attack mode. How? That's easy. Just turn on a light at night and they will flight straight into it at high speed.
It was the lamp next to our door so i really didnt left the house trough that door anymore.

All wasps are on an instant attack-mode. No shit. They'll attack you for just relaxing in your garden under the sun. They'll attack you no matter what.
Hornets are dangerous, and actually. Hornets can kill humans, if the hornets are big enough, 3-4 stings are enough. Because their venom are known to be very strong. I saw something about Japanese Giant Hornets, and there was this guy.. He got stung like 2 times, and a few hours later, if not earlier, he died from it.
He hadn't actully provoked the Hornet.
Hornets are HUGE wasps. Yellow hornets are wasps. Wasps are wasps, they're all wasps, and they're all crazy.
But then again, I just kind off hate everything about wasps, bees and bumblebees. Because they sting, bite and stuff.
Maybe bees only sting when you provoke them, but still. They sting and it hurts. My brother tried both bee and wasp. Had he tried to be stung by a hornet, he'd probably not feel so well, if he survived. But luckily for him, we're not really living in a place with hornets. just another sort of huge wasps. Damn aggressive. erk...
Anyways. Nice shot! Impressive you could get that close :3
