Rejection Sensitivity Disorder. Is it real? I guess it depends on who you ask and what you're willing to believe (which, to that standard, makes everything both real and unreal). It's a disorder if it causes distress, regardless of what it says on the can.

If you present yourself as a puppet show, but you lead people to believe the puppets are the ones in control instead of the puppeteer... well, then, you shouldn't be surprised when people like the puppets more than they like the hands beneath them.

A word of caution: bring your authentic self to relationships. If you wear masks, fine, but say so. Your illusions won't work on everyone, and they probably shouldn't work on anyone.
