I'm trying to imagine an extremely difficult breeding cycle.
What I came up with is a species that requires a very specific plant from their homeworld to be prepared in a very specific way that then needs to be ingested by the female during her estrous period but only after coitus takes place. Then approximately a whole year needs to pass for the pregnancy to take, and that's not including the possibilities of complications or random mutations.

I noticed in the ask anything #7 that there was a species that gestates their kids in their breasts due to the environment they evolved in. Are there any other species that have weird gestation spots like that (eg. the balls, stomach, tail, rear, other organs)? And can other species that possess those parts gestate said species?
