A while ago, I imagined what my fursonna's pattern would give on a shirt, and frankly, it seemed like a pretty awesome shirt to have. I worked with a freelancer that was supposed to make the shirt for me, after helping me to clean up the rough design I sketched, but they misunderstood my (though very clear) explanations and thought I was representing a company, and wanted to massively print and sell the shirt. I guess "I want a shirt for my everyday use. It is for my personal use, and I do not have what is needed to print it myself" means "I work for a company and I want to print hundreds of this to sell them to the masses"?
Anyway... when they sent to me a file that I couldn't even open, and I asked them what it is, they said "it's the file you need to put in the application for the printer to print the shirt, that's what we agreed on, right?" Uhm... no? But no matter what I said, they didn't want to hear it, or do anything more, so I took the file and paid. I then looked online for a place where I could give said file, for them to print the shirt and send it to me, but all I could find were either offering to slap a picture on the chest of the shirt and call it a day, or were offering services of mass printing to companies and didn't print anything less than like 50 copies of it. I got frustrated and put it on ice, more or less ready to have paid for nothing.
A few months later, the subject came up with a coworker and I told all of what happened. She told me about a place in my city that make work uniforms and thematic team clothing, fully personalized. When she used their services, they did offer a truly custom service, that could cover the whole surface with stuff if wanted. Of course, they are a 'work uniform' place, so she wasn't sure they'd print a single shirt for everyday use, but what did it cost to ask? I called.
They understood right away and accepted to work with me. All they needed was the Vector file for the printer (which turned out to be the file sent to me by the freelancer). I sent it to them, they made an estimate of the price, sent me a preview of the expected results, and after I paid the first half, they started production. And here I am now, wearing a shirt that has my fursonna's design on it! It was expensive... very expensive... Although most of it was the Vector file, but I don't care. It's good quality, it's comfortable, and if it lasts me as many years as most of my shirts do, it's gonna be well worth it!
