So this is one from the vault of stories that I finished but forgot to post, something small that I had written when we were still waiting for Tears of the Kingdom to have any information at all. In this story, Zelda finds a new rune on her Sheikah Slate that has some very odd capabilities.
It was a relatively calm day in the kingdom of Hyrule. The skies were clear and monster attacks had become less common since the end of Calamity Ganon but they still happened regardless. Zelda and Link had been traveling all across the lands, discovering anything and everything that had changed since their one hundred year hibernation.
Though as of right now, the pair were sitting at a crudely assembled camp. The two had decided now was a good time to have lunch, with Link cooking and Zelda examining more of the Sheikah Slate. Link looked up from the cooking pot and signed a message to Zelda. “You’ve been looking at the slate more than usual, something wrong?” He asked.
“Not exactly, everything is working the same but it seems there’s a new Rune on the slate but I can’t figure it out,” Zelda said, examining the slate. “I think it was added at the last shrine we entered.”
“That last shrine? The weird one with what seemed like cages?” Link asked.
“Yes, that one! When I try and use the Rune, all it does is bring up a view like I’m taking a picture, but nothing happens when I take a picture. It says it’s waiting for a target but I don’t know what that means,” Zelda huffed before turning around on the seat she was sitting on. She looked across the clearing to see a Bokoblin that was decently close to their camp. Just as Zelda was about to warn Link of the creature, the Sheikah Slate lit up. Zelda looked at it and saw that there was a square around the Bokoblin.
“Target found, Target needs to be closer and in focus.” Zelda looked up from the tablet, seeing that the bokoblin hadn’t noticed her. She began to inch closer, until finally the screen lit up with the word capture. “Alright, time to figure this out.” She said, hitting the capture button.
A laser suddenly shot out of the Sheikah Slate, directly hitting the Bokoblin and causing it to explode into a puff of smoke like normal. However unlike normal, the smoke was blue and began to float towards the slate, getting sucked into the device. “Wow, I’ve never seen a creature do that before.” Zelda said, looking towards the slate. A new screen appeared on the rune, showing off a bunch of empty slots with only one filled, showing a picture of a Bokoblin. She touched the icon and it brought up a timer. “Does it summon the creature to fight for me? Can I set how long it lasts?” Zelda questioned, tinkering with the slate. She decided to set it for ten minutes and hit the GO button.
Zelda watched as the blue smoke came out of the tablet, only for it to suddenly fly directly into her. “What just happened?” Zelda wondered, before her attention was drawn elsewhere. She felt something begin to grow on her head, pushing through a patch of her hair. She reached up to find a small horn with a point had formed on the top of her head. She tried to pull up the camera rune but it was locked due to whatever this current rune was doing. “It feels familiar but I can’t place what it-“ Zelda began to mutter to herself before her eyes caught the Bokoblin horn on the ground. She scrambled over to it and began inspecting it alongside the mysterious growth. “Why did I grow a Bokoblin horn? Is the rune making me a Bokoblin?”
Zelda was once again drawn from her thoughts by a weird sensation. It felt like Zelda was being squished under something’s palm, or gravity was pulling her closer to the ground. In reality, her body was shrinking to match the normal height of a Bokoblin, an unexpected side effect of this was her body becoming more curvy as well. “Oh my, I don’t exactly know how I feel about this.” Zelda mused watching her skin tone become a light blue, matching her normal color.
Zelda was focused on her new skin color and markings when she felt a tugging sensation on her ears. They kept being pulled and pulled, Zelda’s hearing increasing with each tug, until they were big blue floppy ears. Zelda reached up to touch them when she felt her head suddenly stretch as well, becoming more rounded like a bokoblin. Her eyes became big and wide while her nose suddenly pushed back, flattening to match a Bokoblin’s. In an even stranger change, Zelda felt her teeth receding into her mouth, her canine teeth becoming more prominent and pronounced. Her tongue swelled slightly while also turning purple.
Zelda touched her new ears and nose, excited to explore the biology of a creature that never stayed around after death. Her exploration was cut short, her hands began to numb up. She watched as her five digits became a meager three, one thumb and two finger like digits, all of which were tipped with black nails. As Zelda’s feet went through a similar change, she watched as her baggy clothes began to change and match her new body. She still had a collar and a neck piece, her arms had sleeves that went up to her forearms and her legs had covers that went up to just below her shapely thighs. The final touch was her main outfit becoming a sort of leotard that covered her body, but still showed off her new growths.
“Holy Hylia, I’m a bokoblin!” Zelda said to herself, only to find it came out as grunts and shouts. “Oh no! I can’t speak normally! How will I tell Link what happened?”
“Hey! What’s going on over there?” A gruff voice shouted. Zelda turned to find another Bokoblin walking up to her, though strangely not ready to attack. “Who are you? Where’s Jerry?” He shouted.
Zelda was stunned to say the least, the bokoblin didn’t see her as a threat but as another Bokoblin, and she could understand him! “He uh… got slain by a human! He was really strong! We should get out of here!”
“Oh no! I’ll run back to camp and tell the boys to get moving! You get out of here!” The bokoblin shouted before running off.
Zelda chuckled to herself, “Bokoblins are so dumb… wait, does that mean I just called myself dumb?” She wandered over to find the slate still going, counting down from the amount she had set. “I guess I’m like this for a few more minutes.” She said, picking it up and wandering back towards camp.
Link had begun to wonder where Zelda had wandered off too, no doubt that she found something interesting and had to find out every little detail about it. He suddenly spotted a blue bokoblin wandering towards camp, and it had Zelda’s slate in hand! Link sprung into action and grabbed his sword, beginning to charge the creature. He suddenly stopped in his tracks when the bokoblin put its hands up in a stopping motion. He looked at it quizzically, watching as it put down the slate and tried to sign something to him, despite not having the hands for it. Now that he had calmed down, he noticed how weird this bokoblin was. It was a lighter blue than normal, and it had hair and nice looking clothes. It was even smart enough to try and sign to the mute warrior. That’s when he put it all together, “Zelda?” He signed to the Bokoblin.
Zelda shook her head in excitement, happy that Link had recognized her. She picked her slate back up and showed it to him, showing him the countdown.
“You’re stuck like this until the countdown is done?” Link signed, Zelda nodding in response. He sighed and sat back down at the fire, if this little mishap was anything to go off of, this trip was about to get a lot longer.
