On a frosty morning, when the clear cold of winter was still in the air and the land was wrapped in a white robe, the world lay in gentle silence. The ice-covered treetops glistened in the light of the rising sun, and the snow-covered hills spread out wide and majestic. But soon, like a furtive breath of time, spring announced itself. Delicate flowers broke through the hard ground, and the icy expanses seemed to slowly dissolve in the sun's dew. Winter in its chilly glory slowly gave way to spring, and the icy winds that once swept through the air were replaced by gentle, warm breezes that revitalized the earth, while the rivers in the valleys came back to life.
At least that was the case in the lower regions of this land, because as a small arctic fox roamed an elevated plateau, he could still hear the crunching of the snow as he made his way to the pond to quench his morning thirst. He stretched and yawned as he reached the shore, gently rubbing his ice-blue eyes as his scarf fluttered in the warm breeze as he leaned down, cupped his paws and sipped the clear water with relish. But suddenly a shadow flitted across the pond and the little Arctic fox flinched immediately, looked up into the air when it was already too late, and strong paws pushed him to the ground while he kept his eyes closed and groaned a little under the impact.
He felt the paw pressing against his chest, then he blinked cautiously and tried to catch a glimpse of what had happened, while a large, brownish muzzle sniffed close to him. “I could have sworn I saw one of those silver fish, but you... you're...” said a voice that sounded as silvery as the ringing of a bell. “You're a fox!” she growled, somewhat puzzled, before raising her paws and immediately spreading her wings, moving away from the fox with a flapping of her wings and a small jump, landing just a few meters from the shore before raising her head and snorting, ”You'd better dye your fur so you won't be mistaken for a fish from the air again!”
Only when the snow that had been swirled up settled again did the little Arctic fox get up and rub the back of his head before looking over at the cheeky creature, who hadn't even apologized at first. His ice-blue eyes blinked in astonishment, he rubbed them, before hesitantly stuttering, “Dye my fur? Silverfish?” He shook his head and jumped to his feet, “Who... who are you and what are you?” For the first time, he could see who the attacker was, who had mistaken him for a fish, and it was amazing, because thick, light, soft brown fur covered the creature, turning into a dark brown on the ears and back, forming patterns along the tail and hind legs. Enormous horns adorned the skull, while a graceful yet cheeky smile accentuated the incredible blue eyes, accompanied by white, feathery wings, as if an angel were standing right in front of the little fox. “You see? I am a timeless dragon and you... you look like a fish from above with your bluish fur that glistens silver in the sun!”, the silver voice sounded again, and the fox could only laugh softly before he began to brush the snow off his clothes, seemingly forgetting the dragon for a moment.
But when he heard the crunching of the snow, his gaze immediately fell on the dragon again, which quickly returned to its graceful sitting position to look at the fox with a lofty gaze. Was the dragon just playing with snow and water? Anouk shook his head before saying, “Usually you apologize when you've made a mistake, but... mmmh... that doesn't seem to be cross your mind, mmmh?” Maybe that was a bit cheeky and insensitive, but he quickly added, “Anouk... just Anouk, that's my name and who are you?” She rose from her sitting position, stood in front of the little fox and looked down at him with a toothy smile, ”You should watch your tongue little fox, but I am a timeless dragon and my name is Shakumi!” She couldn't help but chuckle softly before leaning down to the fox and whispering, “And it was already enough of an apology that I didn't eat you...”, she teased the fox, and out of the blue she opened her snout and snapped after the fox! Anouk just jumped and winced, thinking it was over, but before he could open his eyes again, he felt a hand stroke his head fluff and a broad grin spread across the dragon's lips, “Did you really think I was going to eat you? You silly little fox, but maybe I can think of something else that's more of an apology for you...”, she growled mischievously as the fox tilted his head questioningly, “Something other than an apology? Um... but... you're not going to eat me, are you?” He swallowed audibly and fell for the charade the timeless dragon was playing with him.
With a wink, she couldn't help but laugh heartily before she pressed the little fox with a slight movement of her head right between her horns, a surprising yelp sounded and Anouk was thrown through the air before he landed on Shakumi's back. “What... what are you doing? What's going on?” the little fox stammered, before the silver voice chuckled, “Hold on tight!”, and immediately the little fox reached into the fluffy fur of the dragon, leaning forward a little to get a good grip around her neck, before he saw the feathery wings spread and in the blink of an eye they rose into the air together. “Shakumi... not... not so fast!”, howled the little fox as he saw the blue sky getting closer and closer, and with a fleeting glance back he saw how the snowy clearing was getting smaller and so he tightened his grip a little more as he audibly swallowed. Shakumi teased the little fox, while another flap of her wings increased their speed. It seemed as if the graceful dragon was completely in her element as she teased the little fox and gave him a sightseeing flight he would never forget.
Was this the beginning of a friendship, a new adventure full of wildness and teasing, while perhaps the deep bond between these two was awakening?
