The two had been strolling through town for much of the day, and they were both looking forward to a resting their feet, even though it was really only Pomeline who needed a rest since Constantine was riding on her snout, but in a way, Constantine needed a break as well, as it was mentally taxing letting Pomeline do her thing without being a party pooper, even if it might’ve been justified.
”Whew..." said Pomeline. "I need to sit down."
Constantine, hearing this, immediately started looking around for a spot she could sit in that wouldn’t cause too much damage. He could’ve said this out loud, but the bet was still on. Fortunately for him, ahead the concrete jungle abruptly transitioned to lush green. It was the perfect spot for his giant friend to take a nice sit. ”Well, the park is right there," he suggested, "perhaps you'd like to take a rest? Maybe?" 'Please...' he thought.
"Ooh, perfect!" Pomeline said, quickly trudging into the park. She sighed happily as her feet left the crumbly tarmac for the soft grass and dirt, though she still left huge cracks in the ground from her heavy steps. “Mmmm, that feels good already…” she breathed. As soothing as the grass felt, she still wanted to sit down somewhere...
… And she then found the perfect spot, a large pond... well, not large to her, but it was enough. "Say! I can soak my feet, too! Great idea to come here, Conny!"
"You're welcome," Constantine said with a chuckle. He at last could relax and not worry about Pomeline trampling anything else for a while.
BOOOOM!!
Of course, Pomeline couldn't avoid sitting directly on the footpath and putting a huge crater in it (as well as not watching out for any small scales who might’ve been walking by at that point). She rolled her pants up to her knees and gently slid her aching feet into the soothing water. “Ahhh…” she sighed. With the hot sun shining, she took off her hat and begin fanning herself. ”Boy…” she panted. “I’m cookin’!”
Constantine sighed too, though half in relaxation and half in slight annoyance to Pomeline blocking the path. He may as well take what he can get, he figured, as he sat and enjoyed the sunshine and the moment of relative peace.
"Gotta say, Conny," Pomeline broke the silence. “You hung in there!”
"Eh..." Constantine said with a shrug, "I guess it helps that you and the others make me numb to this over time."
Pomeline snorted. "Happy to help~" she said teasingly. Constantine grunted and rolled his eyes, making the Para laugh. “Good job though, Conny! I guess you CAN tolerate a little fun after all!”
“Ha! See?” Constantine said shakily. “I-I told ya I could do it! So uh… did I win the bet?”
“Mmmm…” Pomeline thought for a moment, glaring at the Compy. “Let me think about that…”
Constantine whimpered. ‘Oh come on…’ he thought.
However, Pomeline burst into laughter when she saw Constantine’s pale expression, her laughing bouncing him of course. “Calm down, little guy!” she reassured. “I’m kidding~ Once my feet feel better I’m probably gonna head back.” Constantine exhaled as Pomeline continued. “Honestly, you lasted way longer than I thought you would, so color me impressed!”
Constantine sheepishly rubbed his neck. “Eh, well…” he said, blushing.
"Guess I won't be needing a new hanky!" Pomeline mused.
"Uggh..." Constantine grunted as he was reminded of what he has just avoided. "Thank goodness..."
Pomeline giggled at Constantine's relief, still relishing in teasing the Compy. Even so, she genuinely was impressed at this composure, throughout their walk, even if Constantine seemed to only barely hold it in. She couldn't help but become curious. “Why DO you get so uptight about us walking though here anyway?”
Constantine raised a brow and looked her in the eyes. “… That a serious question?”
“Well I mean, I always wondered,” Pomeline said, shrugging. “You always seem to try to get all bent out of shape when one of us breaks something around here, even though you… well… can’t really stop us!” Pomeline honked slightly as she chuckled. "Like, why bother?"
Constantine rolled his eyes. “Because it makes my job easier if you trample less things. After all, as a large-and-small-relations agent, I have to negotiate insurance deals for more... err... collateral-damage-prone large scales, which is not easy or cheap… especially if they don't have a permit!“
Pomeline raised her brow. ”Mmmm... is that shade?" she asked.
"Err... maybe?" Constantine said, looking away.
Pomeline snorted. "You're lucky the bet’s over, you booger~" she laughed.
Constantine sighed in relief. Still, he had to ask. “Are uh… you ever gonna get a permit though?”
The Para snorted again. “I meeeean, I tried, but I didn’t pass, so whatever… Do I really NEED one though? ‘Cause like I said, they can’t exactly stop me! Besides, Bay and Steppy don’t need one!”
“Because Bay has a pass since she’s a courier transport, and Steppy has a pass for… marketing reasons, apparently,” Constantine stated. “… Though I don’t know how she made that work…"
"Persuasion!" said Pomeline.
"... Of course..." Constantine said with a huff. "Anyway, the fact that they can’t really stop you is the only saving grace!”
“Yeah, the fact that they can’t stop me is all the permit I need~” Pomeline laughed.
Constantine glared. “… You silly rebel…” he said flatly, as Pomeline just honked.
Pomeline went into her teasing mode yet again. “So Conny…” she began. “If you could take that much fun TODAY-”
“NUH-UH!” Constantine interrupted, immediately knowing where this was going, and now no longer confined to the conditions of the bet. “Bet’s over, Pom! You can't just extend it!”
“True, BUT… the bet lasted only for today though," said Pomeline ominously. "Tomorrow's a new day, isn’t it~?”
“But… but…”
“You can’t stop me~”
“…Auuuuh…” Constantine moaned with dread. Pomeline laughed loudly and honked, rattling Constantine again. For the Compy, the laugh almost felt maniacal. Of course that wasn’t the case, since he knew Pomeline was mostly teasing… mostly. After all, if she wanted to bet him again, as Pomeline had said before, he couldn’t stop her.
“Thanks for the best day ever, Conny~” Pomeline chortled.
"Yep…” Constantine muttered, a little tired. "Best... day... ever..."
At last, the walk is over, and Conny managed to win the bet and make it all the way through without complaining about Pomeline's antics, though just barely. Also a little info on what Constantine does exactly after his big friends go on a romping.
I hope you enjoyed this Macro March series! It was a little on the spot since I didn't really have it planed out, but I hope it came out well nonetheless.
Enjoy!
