Today my father visited us and told me that my cat Lilly passed away today at noon. She was 20 years old.
(Some people might remember me saying she was 21, but we checked it again)
Lilly had been around with and for me since I was very young and helped me through all of my life so far. She didn't like me a lot anymore when I moved away from my parents in 2015/16 because she couldn't enter my room anymore to sleep when I wasn't around, which was something she always loved to do. And when we visited my parents she used to hiss and growl at me, because she's always been a resentful cat, which also continued when my parents moved to us here together with her.
She didn't have any teeth for a few years anymore, lost a lot of fur patches here and there, didn't manage to use her claws properly, she was probably slightly deaf as well toward the end, because I remember her roaring like a moose sometimes when she was hungry or wanted attention, but with 20 years for a cat, which is somewhere around 90 human years, this was to be expected sooner or later.
For the past couple weeks though she's been weak, didn't eat at all, just drank a lot of water and only lurched around in my parent's home. So we knew it was going to happen eventually. She also slightly tried to hide herself from everyone in the back of her scratching post and continued to get slimmer over the past three weeks now. Though when I went over to feed her for three days recently when my parents were gone for a weekend, we at least made peace, because I sat down beside her weak form each day, softly caressing her chin for over half an hour and she even purred at me weakly, enjoying the treatment, which made me cry because it meant a lot to me!
The images on the top are both from 2014 and the lower left one is from 2016. The lower right one is only 7 days old, where she was already struggling.
