Valcour, my himbo medical engineer! Val's tadpole was selected to be part of a genetic experiment attempting to make colonizing dryer climates possible without the need for damp suits. He has managed to escape his colony and now lives on the surface in modern Athkatla.
While the rest of his species' skin is rubbery and coated in a thin layer of mucus, Val is dry and is covered head to toe in python scales. Because of this, Val sheds his skin a few times a year and lacks the magic resistance the mucus would have given him.
Unrelated to the experiments, Val has also retained an embarrassing part of his host's anatomy, it has made finding a partner on the surface difficult and has caused him to dislike his body to the point of considering surgery to correct the issue.
Most of Val's youth was spent trapped in a 10x10ft cell in the Illithid genetics block of the Creative's laboratory. He was sealed at birth and never educated so he has no access to his psionics. After a Gith attack wiped out most of his colony, including the Illithid in charge of his testing, Val was removed from the lab and joined the creatives as a simple mechanic while the colony rebuilt what they had lost. While working on the colony's main power source, Val learned he was a sorcerer by coming into contact with a live line and causing a blackout.
He had been shown mercy many times for his usefulness but being magically inclined would certainly put him to death, so Val used the blackout he had caused as a distraction and escaped into the Underdark.
Eventually he made his way to Athkatla and began the lengthy immigration process that had allowed renegade Illithid into the city for the last 30 years.
Val is part of mine and my friend's modern setting. Its very basic but what does exist for it is here: https://toyhou.se/31643071.bigmfrat.....re/literatures
