Several weeks ago while grilling up some burgers I had a REALLY hot grill. So hot that the carbon and oil layer on the inside top of the grill was burning. This marched slowly along the surface leaving the surface dappled.
To get an idea about scale, at the top mid-centre you can see the tip of the grill's temperature probe which at its tip is about 3/32" (a touch over 2mm)
