My employers recently gifted me many bottles of bitters. So I've been trying to come up with drinks to utilize them in my drinking alone time. This was a tasty and refreshing concoction I came up with.
What You'll Need:
-Favorite cocktail glass with ice
-ruby red grapefruit juice
-2 dashes of orange bitters
-1 pinch of kosher salt
-3 shots of orange curacao
-1 shot of amaretto (optional. amaretto has quickly become one of my top 5 favorites. It isn't necessary, but it will give the drink a subtle nuttiness)
-1 ounce of fresh lime juice
-grenadine
-blood orange wheel (optional garnish)
Step 1:
If you're feeling fancy, rim your glass with salt for an extra kick. Otherwise just add ice.
Step 2:
Start with the bitters and salt, followed by the orange curacao, amaretto, and lime juice.
Step 3:
Fill nearly to the top with ruby red grapefruit juice. Make sure to leave some room for the grenadine. Give the drink a quick stir.
Step 4:
Fill the rest of the glass to the top with grenadine, no need to stir as the grenadine will give the drink a nice blood red gradient.
Add a blood orange wheel if you happen to have any. But I know that blood oranges aren't the easiest thing to find. As a matter of fact, I originally wanted this drink to be made with blood orange juice instead of grapefruit. But I couldn't for the life of me find any. If anyone happens to get their hands on some blood orange juice, let me know how it turned out.
