I see your confusion. The background looks so massively gorgeous it gives the question whether it makes the character in it obsolete.
I think no! It's like the chocolate cake and the cherry on top of it. You could remove that tiny cherry from it and have just the slice of cake. But, that tinny cherry just make it noticeably better! ^^
