Bunmonth: Intro to Easter Bunnies [Story]
The Easter Bunny (A. Z. Lepus Eostre), endemic to Germany but spreading throughout the Americas, is a rarely seen but surprisingly numerous subspecies of anthro rabbit. It is distinguished from other leporids, or indeed most anthros via its independent development of the traits of a monotreme.
Easter Bunnies produce colorful, complex patterned eggs. The patterning is believed to be intended to camouflage their nests against scrubland, but a mutation in the pigment production resulted in dazzlingly colored eggs that camouflage against very little. Surprisingly, rather than rapidly dying out, this mutation lingered thanks to -behavioral- adaptation rather than genetic, as the bunnies overcompensating by 'hiding' their eggs in the strangest of places resulted in nests even more difficult to discover than natural camouflage.[1]
Perhaps it is no surprise, then, that they were one of the earliest species to develop anthropomorphism and enhanced intelligence. Despite seeming atavistic in many respects, Easter Bunny intelligence trends towards the top 5% of all anthro species, which, combined with their numerous biological advantages, makes them a force to be reckoned with.[2]
Easter Bunnies have a diet high in sugar. -Extremely- high in sugar. However, unlike baseline humans and much more similar to hummingbirds, an all sugar diet has provided them with extremely lean bodies, great speed, and high metabolisms. An easter bunny responds to a diet that is entirely candy and chocolate the way a human responds to a diet that is entirely brown rice and fish. With the addition of protein to their diet, they can achieve physiques considered astonishing.
Their manipulation of 'sugar reserves' is their most interesting biological trait, in addition to great speed and reflexes, an Easter Bunny that gets -enough- sugar to exceed their daily requirements exhibits two interesting traits. The first is the ability to sweat a sweet and extremely nutritionally dense milk, like other monotremes, but even the males retain this capability. Easter milk is known to smell like marshmallow or chocolate, depending on the individual, and is considered highly tempting to almost all mammalian species.[3]
But much more noticeable is their ability to slow down their perception of time. While a human on a sugar rush may feel the world -exhibits- signs of slowing down, for an Easter Bunny it actually does. Reflexes, perception, and even muscle twitch can accelerate when their metabolism is raised towards its max, enabling feats such as touching every corner of a 10 acre field in the space of 3.6 seconds.[4]
Anthro Easter Bunnies are usually recommended to engage in meditation and yoga, and an estimated 73% of modern Easter Bunnies are able to consciously control their metabolism, letting them speed themselves up at will... or drop their daily calorie needs below 10,000 kcal as situation demands.[5]
The modern - human - Easter Bunny is in an excellent position. "Fast-Paced" work environments suit them extremely well[6], and Easter Bunnies are on average one of the top 5 earning anthro races. What is for many species a health crisis, with 'add more sugar' considered the key to restaurateur success and soda and junk food being cheaper than water, is for Easter Bunnies an eternal bulking season.
The brief historical tradition that had considered the Easter Bunny a supernatural creature can consider itself well vindicated, as the supernatural speed and strange leavings that seemed so whimsical have evolved into a modern man that is stronger, smarter, and overall superior. While no true emissary of the harvest, it makes perfect sense to consider their bodies 'Godly'. [*Paragraph removed for tone*]
