I hear a lot of lousy stuff about LA, but when I went there, West Hollywood, Santa Monica and Irvine were the nicest , most lovely places I had ever been, and nobody looked down their noses at me, no matter how big of a fag I was.
I'm so happy to be moving there :D
We'll see how I feel in the long run!

Eh, there's no shortage of places I'd rather live less than LA. It's huge, which I think is probably it's biggest strength and its biggest weakness. There are tons of things to do there and tons of cool people to hang out with, but you may have to drive an hour to see them. But if you're coming from a suburban scene where driving 45 minutes to hang out with friends is already a given, that's no big loss. (My) People give LA a hard time for the plastic, fake, materialistic "Hollywood" culture, but there are plenty of honest, sincere, tuned-in people there. It's just a matter of finding them (and the ubiquitous furry network is always a nice kick-start to finding friends in new places).
And Santa Monica is lovely.

You're the first person to qualify your flak and give LA some props out of all the people that I've told I was moving to LA to. Excellent show, man, excellent show :)
I'll keep in mind the things you said, as I agree with them. Hopefully, I'll find a better life, and some of the things I'm looking for.
Such as sleazy coffee shops.

Eh, ragging on LA is like a matter of custom more than anything. While I am not in any rush to pick up and move there myself, 99% (well, maybe 90%) of the trash-talking I do is tongue-in-cheek, because of the longstanding SF-vs-LA rivalry that only people in SF seem to be aware of <3 Honestly, any city is going to have its good things and bad things, and LA has a ton of both, so there's at least plenty of choice to be had.
And yeah, coming from the Bible Belt, even LA should be a decidedly more mellow experience. Also, sleazy.

Always appreciate that last part <3
I'm sure somehow I'll be swept into the SF vs LA culture myself, but hey, who knows. I never fell into that stereotypical trap in Mexico, so I might find myself pleasantly detached.
Looking forward to the experience - and to visiting SF on occasion to test the waters and see what "the other side" lives like. Six hours away is perfectly drivable, after all, and I have a number of friends in SF.
All in all, looking forward to seeing more of all this up in here. >:)

Yeah, I was surprised how pleasant the drive is. It's like there's the scenic route and the really scenic route
And the old joke goes that SF folks keep the feud alive, while the LA folks are like "Oh, I love San Francisco! It's pretty, and people are nice!" I guess we're just dicks? Again,

We like sweet tea in California, no worries! We can go to a Teavana or something in a shopping mall nearby in Valencia. It gives free samples of awesome tea! My school is also five minutes from Magic Mountain Six Flags.
But, alas, I'm spending a year getting general education done in Sacramento, where I live.
