Yes exactly. I don't want to be told that being trans is a sin, and that I'm an abomination and should go back into the closet. I don't want to be told to be accepting when somebody throws a fit because I don't fit their narrow views of gender. Thank you for understanding, there aren't many people who get it, especially nowadays.
Because this very language has been used against me, and this language is the subject of your argument. You're saying that there are members of the trans community who aren't trans because they're simply following a trend. The reality is that we're experiencing increased visibility (for better and for worse) because we occupy online spaces where we are the focal point of discourse. Those who fall outside the definition of "acceptable transness" are invalid, which makes harassment towards them less offensive, and almost honorable depending on how far outside they land.
I implore you to consider why you believe people who invalidate trans people they see as "trenders". Who are the leftists saying that? What are they trying to gain by invalidating others? What is a "legitimate" trans person, and why do they get to gatekeep the community? Does pulling up the ladder for trans people who don't fit into the "true definition of transness" gain the "true trans community" a temporary seat at the oppressor's table? Why is it usually gender nonconforming people, neurodivergent people, people of colour, poorer trans folk, and/or younger trans people that are deemed as invalid? Why does anger and a lack of civility in the face of an overwhelmingly oppressive system designed to keep suicide rates high negate their identity?
Most importantly, why is gender exploration not allowed to be an open and inclusive journey, free from judgment and gatekeeping?
Dividing the trans community into categories of "real" and "trenders" causes in-fighting. Trying to turn leftists against """trenders""" is a way of pushing out a lot of left leaning politically active people. This began with centre and centre-right "truscum" and "transmeds" pulling up the ladder on other trans people to make their own existence seen as more valid in the eyes of their oppressors. By invalidating trans identities for speaking out, venting, and not being perfect, we alienate a very vocal community that has been at the forefront of gay rights since the movement's inception.
There is no good reason to disavow trans people for not fitting into narrow cis patriarchal definitions. Such behaviour only seeks to undermine the legitimacy of our struggle.
