You wouldn't believe how many people don't know what an okapi is, so here's Puzzle with a (long-winded) explanation.

I'd stick around and listen to Puzzle. I enjoy learning details of taxonomy, though I admit I have a preference for native Aussie animals.

Kadath do you have any marsupials in your cast of characters?

Depending on the context of the mutter, dear otter <: )
Here's a great resource on the subject, with a nice introduction, too:

This resource is less high-falutin', but talks about the connotation of "butsubutsu", if you want to use that expression in the future:
https://skdesu.com/en/meaning/%E3%8.....oogle_vignette
(in the URL, you might be able to see it as written in hiragana)
My own first encounter with that expression was in the Japanese version of Dragon Quest 1 on keitai/cell phone. I think it was spoken by a complaining/grumbling palace guard in the throne room where you start the game. A townsperson in the first village in Final Fantasy Legend 1 might have had the same thing going on, and ditto for one of the NPCs in Zelda 1.

Thank you very much for the exhaustive breakdown, friend, but to clarify, Deku of My Hero Academia would be accompanied by these kana every time he would begin talking extensively to himself about his analysis of a hero or situation.
I likened Puzzle's imprompty zoology lessons to that lol

Puzzle never heard of an Okapi before? Granted, there are a lot of animal species I have learned about in the past several years, but surprising Puzzle doesn't know about the variety of animal people that live on their version of Earth.
I suppose it makes sense, with such a shit ton of different animals on Earth alone, I now realize not every animal person knows every animal species depending on what location they live in and if not well traveled.

Reminds me of the paintball field trip episode of Daria: The Daria Hunter.
Brittany, the ditzy cheerleader, starts giving out sound tactical advice to her team.
Then her teammates stare at her, baffled how she's doing this.
"What? My dad watches the History Channel!"
