Here is a piece I have been working on for the last few months. I did a little study on realistic bird wings and decided to sketch a bird girl. I liked this one the most so I colored it and I am pretty satisfied with the end product.
I tried out a different way of shading and I kind of like it :)
It is inspired by Maximum Ride because I have started to read that series again. :D
She looks so sad D:... xP

Those feathers are beautiful. I can tell you've done a lot of study on wing structure.
It's hard to see how the wings connect to the rest of the body, though--I guess it's just the angle. Even so, I would have a pretty hard time drawing the transition from wing to skin, and make it look natural.
And yes, she does look sad. Perhaps sitting off on the side because she doesn't feel like she belongs?

I just slapped on her wings and really didn't think, about how they would attach... Next time I think I will have more small feathers kind of trailing off in her back... hmmm... -runs off to try it- xP
Yeah... whenever I draw people they look sad D: ... I need to practice expressions xD
