The life of a postal dragon can be very diverse.
Somedays it's bringing packets across the city, some it's bringing letters to faraway cities or even countries and sometimes the bigger dragons also carry a passenger.
Of course, not every dragon allows anthros to ride on their back and the additional weight means that one flies shorter distances.
Here Zeph is carrying a noble waterdragon anthro.
They took a stop for a nights rest in a pine forest for their travels before heading out at early dawn.

The saddles are mostly used by dragons in military duty (since they need to be able to fly maneuvers and doge without throwing off their rider).
But they're also used when the rider is inexperienced. While one could fly without and safe at least part of the weight, it's simply less safe.
Zeph being a postal dragon just rarely wears one when someone has to urgently get to another city he's already headed to.
The people he carries are usually not experienced as the ones who are usually have their own dragon^^

whoa so a pony (dragon) express dragon with military experience to lol
I see. I thought like from your first post dragon artwork, like Zeph has a regular rider that would put the post and say hi to the recipients lol. Cool concept and idea though, I personally would like those kind of saddle would be very suitable for seasoned dragon riders who had to do crazy maneuvers at times
