This site does seem predominantly english-speaking, although that would be a very interesting site-wide poll, wouldn't it? Native language, and other languages you speak? I'd find it interesting, anyway. :) You're definitely right, though, about not-naughty postings here seeming to get nowhere near the attention of the naughty ones. Sometimes a bit of a shame, too, since there is some very fine clean art floating around here!

If it's visual art you'll still get watchers to have a look at, if it's music, people will download, but if it's text... people mostly don't take their time. Writers are lowest in the fandom :/
The problem is I might be a good writer in English. But I'm the better writer in German. At least I've been told to be able to write really good. As in REALLY good v.v *don't know if it's true*

True. Unfortunately, FA doesn't support text particularly well either. That's mostly why I've never bothered posting any of my stories here. I write moderately crappy sci-fi, mostly for my own amusement. :)

From what I can see, anyway, you seem to be a very competent writer in English! If you can write well in a second language, I would imagine that your native tongue is going to be considerably better. That's probably a fairly good guess, although I'd rate the Asian languages slightly farther up the list, given the number of Japanese people who seem to be quite active on the internet. English appears to be the predominant language, though, probably because most of the Internet seems to originate in North America and Europe.

Oh, you're flattering me again! v.v *get all rubicund eartips* - And you might be right about Asian languages, I was solely referring to what I see from artists and their commenting watchers.

But I think I'll still be posting my texts here, I just wish it wasn't so horribly time-consuming to translate everything. I've got some stories I'd like to share, but they're all in German. And then I have that huge story in the back of my mind and the hardest part would be writing in English, I would feel limited as I cannot express myself as well as I can in German. It feels like damaged wings and flying wouldn't be half the fun ._.

I think that might have to do with most asian computer users speaking English as part of their general education... Maybe. Honestly, if I was setting up a school system for a country myself, I think I would make two languages mandatory right from the beginning. Not sure which two, but knowing two languages from an early age gives better mastery in BOTH languages later. I really wish I spoke any German at all so that I could help you translate, or at least proof read the translation against the original. Sadly, I only speak English, and a bit of Latin.

You should write the story anyway, write it in German if you're not comfortable with English for it! Half the point of writing to begin with is to have fun and to explore your own mind, not necessarily for the other people involved. :)

Aww, you're sweet ^.^ - I so wish I could speak Spanish or French or Japanese *sigh*. And hmm... I don't want to write just for me and know that I put so much work and effort into something and it will never be read by others :( - that's just so frustrating. I miss the times when my friends came up to me, asking if I already had some new poems available. It felt so good <.<

Yeah, with a life that's a bunch of frustrations and now profession that satisfies one it's hard to get praise or to not rely on it. For me reading is something more meant to be shared than even painting could ever be.

It's always good to have your work appreciated, isn't it? Especially when it's something you've put a lot of time into. That's one of the reasons I enjoy woodworking so much, I think. I think you write very fine poetry, Khisa, I just wish I could read the originals!

I think writing is special like that because it's more or less a window into your mind. You are taking a certain, personalized version of a story and a world, and putting it down on paper to hand to someone else and go "Here, this is what I saw in my mind." It makes it a rather personal and special thing when you can do that and do it well! :)

Yes, it is, and for me it is even more. Working or the results of work where the only appreciation I got (if at all) from home. Thank you, Komitadjie, you never fail to compliment me *blush*

I believe it's possible to let others into your mind and heart through pictures, too, but it is still different. A story does not only show you the pictures, but sometimes unravels a whole universe towards the reader.

Awrrr! *Nuzzles* It's not just you, for sure! There's just something very awesome about realizing that your work is appreciated by someone, and having it acknowledged that your skill is valuable and improving. :) I have the rather odd hobby of sharpening knives, and it's actually very similar there. A knife tends to be a fairly personal possession, given that a good one is reasonably expensive, and tends to stay with a person on the order of tens of years. So it's somewhat of an act of faith when someone gives you their knife, and being able to hand it back as good or better than new is a great feeling. It definitely took me quite a while to build up enough confidence to try it for the first time! The look on their face, though, when you hand it back and it's all polished up and razor-sharp again is rather great, especially if it has a special significance. Say, the knife that their grandpa gave them, or their dad's old woodcarving knife. :)

I think you just hit on a good point there, actually. A photo or picture shows you someone's view of something. A story shows you a glimpse into the artist's mind, the universe they've created and modeled inside their own imagination. It's fun to share such a thing with others and have it appreciated! Plus, you can often get some very interesting suggestions that might make it even better. :)
