It may not look like much but for me it is a once-in-a-lifetime picture.
Barn owls are very active at night. While we other owls, e.g. eagle owls, little owls or short-eared owls are sometimes active during the day or at dusk, barn owls only come out at night.
Barn owls are also extremely shy and are gone before you can see them.
That's why most barn owl pictures are of falconry birds, zoo animals or taken at night with a flash.
The fact that it flies towards you instead of away is even more unusual.
I can only guess what happened here. I was in a small observation stand for counting great bustards in Havelland. I didn't see where it came from but there's a public observation tower on the other side of the field and I suspect it was sleeping in there and was startled by visitors.
