Attempt on a pic, it didn't turn out how the owner wanted it so sadly its a fail. I was pretty happy with it especially the background and details. You might notice the far corner of the shopt is 'out of focus' its a post effect I thought helped make it look nicer.

Why for the the commissioner not like it? I have to say, I really like the wooden floor and 'old world' humble looking tailor shop look, you nailed that. I also did notice the background out of focus blur which was a nice touch to give a sense of depth and dimention to the shops perspective. Hehehe, I even like the pretty dress being worked on.
So what gives? What sort of 'failed' critic are you getting from the commissioner?

For some reason I was thinking of you when I drew the dress there...thanks I put alot of work into the little details for the floor and cloth and making it look 'lived in'
I failed because the character doesn't looks the same as the first time I drew him. This is supposed to be the 'soft side' to Black bolt: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/586157/
I tried to make him look smaller and weaker by widening the eyes and making his body seem more relaxed but I just didn't get it right.

I have to be honest here.
Compared to the rest of the work I've seen from you, this piece of work is outstanding from the rest.
It might be safe to say that with your ability to cleanly hold a style through background and character as well as you have here, "more is better" when it comes to your artwork.
You even pushed through a focus effect on your background which came out really well.
What exactly did the commissioner not care for? Was there something incorrect about the character?
The only criticism I have is that the character's neck is a little on the long side, and the tail a bit too slender if it's a feline- but, that's more of a personal style thing, so take it or leave it.
*hugs*
I hope to see more artwork like this coming from you. Keep up with the nice background work.

Thank you, I felt this was some of my best work so far thats why I was so proud of it.
The problem he had (now keep in mind this guy is a good friend who has always been very supportive) the character doesn't look enough like the previous version I drew (black bolt) and thats the only thing wrong. As for the tail its supposed to be like a rat's tail with a tuft at the end so its supposed to be thin

Okay...
So that everyone understands, there's a big difference between not liking something because it's badly done or poor workmenship, and having an idea in your head that you were hoping the artist would capture and didn't quite get. (Yes I'm the pain in the ass that asked for the pic)
I like the drawing, and the detail work and background are amazing. This is exactly what his shop looks like most of the time and the post effect was skillfully used.
I felt very bad when I had to say, "I like it but..." and everything that followed but was my telling my favorite artist that I was hoping for him to look more like the original and I think it all just ended up sounding like I hated it... when I didn't.
The thing is... I love your work.. you know that, and I love seeing what you produce. Until you drew "Black bolt" he was only an image in my head, and you gave him life. Made him breathe and leap from the pages of my book. For that I can't thank you enough. But you did so perfectly on the first drawing that , I think.. the change was a little too much from that one.
Funny part is.. you ended up drawing a character you haven't read about yet... (Andrean... he's clocksmith made that spiffy crosbow and is very frail looking, and very feline looking.) So it's not a failure just a mis step.
*hugs tightly* and bows his head apologetically. You're still my favorite furry artist hun, and I still love eveything you do. I'm sorry.

I'm really sorry Telly, I didn't mean to sound like you smacked me across the face when I showed you this. Like I keep saying, your one of my most supportive friends out there (not that everyone isn't wonderfully supportive, thank you all) its just something in the pic wasn't what you were looking for and this is something you paid me for so you should be happy with the final product. I'm not angry about it, little frustrated at myself but your right it doesn't look enough like Black Bolt. Besides the fix will probably take a fraction of the time of the pic.
Just going to draw another character on a fresh sheet that looks more like what you were looking for and photoshop him into the foreground.
