...The wolf waddled to the porch and started up the steps, which crackled under his heavy footsteps. When he reached the stairs, he turned sideways and tried to unlock the door roughly. It wouldn't budge.
- Damn it, did you lock it again? - He grumbled and began to drum impatiently on the wood with his unwounded hand. Something moved and rustled, and frequent footsteps were heard.
- I'm coming, I'm coming. Stop knocking! - said a rather distinct female voice. After a lull there was a typical click of the key being inserted into the bolt and its turning. The door opened. An elderly old female wolf lady in a green skirt with a rose-petal pattern covering her chest and shoulders appeared in the passage. Her half-gray blonde hair was neatly tucked into a bundle. She looked into brown eyes, adjusting her glasses on the bridge of her nose.
- Henry, who's that? - The old woman's surprised look stopped on the girl.
- There's no time to explain it to you. She's hurt. Let me through.
The old man stepped across the threshold, nearly knocking the landlady over, trying not to hit the doorjamb. She stepped aside with a groan, but then she stomped away from him, next to the wolf who was waddling.
- Ellie, find some medicine. Find something already. Stay out of the way! - The wolf bellowed harshly, squinting at the growing pain.
- Oh, gods, what's going on? - The she-wolf muttered excitedly, alarmed and frightened...
Meet Ellie Rose, an old but charming old lady who has been scared by appearence of her husband Henry on the late hour with the unconscious fox girl on his hands.
This is a small part of an ongoing first chapter of the personal project "The Night Elegy". Stay tuned for the progress.
