By 1968, Dodge was in many forms of motorsport, including drag racing, but the competition was toughening up after the trampling delivered by Mopar with their introduction of the 426 Hemi engine in 1964. Dodge approached Hurst in 1968 to hammer out a deal that would culminate in a rare and incredibly quick car to run in the Pro Stock category of NHRA. Dodge supplied Hurst with Dodge Darts fresh off the assembly line, and Hurst would strip the interior and replace the sedate street motor with a race-ready version of the 426 Hemi engine. Only around 55 of these lightweight drag cars were made in 1968, so they are some of the rarest muscle cars ever made.
