This particular commission was very important to me. While at my table at A-kon I was taking commissions and this certain fellow gave a description of what he wanted: something especially important to him, a gift for his mate. Of course, I agreed, and the details of his request were overwhelming.
But that's not what made this important to me... This fellow was there for me when I was abandoned and left in a troubling position. While at A-kon the friend that drove me four hours from home for the event, in a fuss left me stranded there with five commissions left to complete, four hours until the convention was finished, with no ride home.
I was at my table with my face red and covered in tears, trying to hide the unwarranted guilt and shame, fear, and worry of how I was going to call my parents and ask them to drive four hours to pick me up, when this fellow walked up to check on how his commission was going. I hadn't even started on it yet, but he didn't even ask about it. Instead he asked me if I was okay, and he comforted me when I needed that support the most.
By the end of the day, his commission was the only one left unfinished, but he stuck with me for the rest of the day in the hotel lobby while I waited for my parents to arrive. I vented my emotions after every last tear was cried, and he filled the gap that my previous friend left when she stabbed me in the back.
The fellow and I agreed to continue this business after I got home for A-kon and calmed down from the experience. And here it is!
Originally the commission was supposed to me smaller, less detailed, and on low-quality paper. But, consider this upgrade my gift to you for being the literal shoulder to cry on, the cool guy, and that caring friend I needed when I needed it the most. You kept that tragic and scary time for me safe and probably the most fun it could have been for what it really was.
I really really appreciate your friendship. You have no fucking clue what kind of impact you had on me just from being a kind person to a distressed stranger.

I'm really glad that I went through your gallery from oldest to newest because it makes this piece really stand out. This is such a wonderful piece about friendship for reasons that are probably all obvious (the expressions, the breath mingling, the hands). I love seeing so much warmth from art that has a cold theme. Actually, the way the background works with the composition is one of my favourite things about this. It's so simple and has such a "flat" appearance that the characters really pop out.
